Monkeytown Makes A Special Delivery To Benton County Food Pantry

Monkeytown's Jason Hebert & Shawn Voss with Benton County Food Pantry Co-Director Sherry Crawford   Folks in Vinton are accustomed to seeing the Monkeytown vans making deliveries.  But on Wednesday afternoon, the vans were parked because the drivers were busy making an extra special delivery, on foot, to the Benton County Food Pantry.  The drivers walked boxes of nonperishable items from their back door to their neighbors to the north, the Benton County Food Pantry, where Pantry Co-Director Sherry Crawford was waiting with an enthusiastic smile.

Kiwanis Club members hear and see how light plant has recovered from flood

A gauge shows how much electricity the generator produces. One unit can power the town most days. The members of the Vinton Kiwanis met at The Pizza Ranch for their weekly meeting Tuesday at noon. But after eating, the members moved their meeting to the Vinton Municipal Electrical Utility. Light Plant Manager Rich Ohrt gave the Kiwanis members a tour of the light plant, particularly the areas that had been affected by the flood of 2008. Ohrt told the club that because of FEMA funding, virtually all of the repairs were made with federal dollars without having to charge the utility's customers.

New fund-raiser at Palace: Donate $100, get a free movie poster!

Palace Manager Marcy Horst holds two of the movie posters available for those who donate $100. By Marcy Horst Palace Manager Last Sunday night, regular movie-goer Bud Maynard offered me a $100 donation in exchange for the “Wimpy Kid” movie poster.  OK, Bud, I’ll take that deal, and I’m offering it to all our patrons. Is there a movie poster you know your son is dying to tack above his bed? Is your daughter in love with “High School Musical 3?” Make a donation of $100 or more and I’ll give you the poster of your choice.
