Vaccine development is one of many steps taken to enhance our foreign animal disease preparednessIowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig today announced the formation of the Livestock Protection Innovation Grant Program. The program will provide grant funding to assist Iowa-based companies in the development of safe and effective vaccines that may help protect Iowa livestock from foreign animal diseases.

Hawkeye Community College has announced the next Business Consortium Workshop Series, focused on providing an intense concentration of knowledge in specific business topics to employees across all industries.The consortium consists of 11 different workshops, all focused on building business strength. HACAP Food Reservoir will commemorate 40 years of feeding Eastern Iowa with an open house on September 26, 2023 that will be open to community members, partners, donors, and volunteers. The public will have the opportunity to take a tour, meet staff, and learn about how food moves through the warehouse from donation to delivery.1 in 13 individuals in HACAP Food Reservoir’s service areas struggle with food insecurity.
Wind portfolio increases production 25% over 2021 levels
More than 50% of the energy Alliant Energy’s Iowa utility provided to its customers in 2022 came from renewable energy generation. Alliant Energy, the third-largest owner-operator of regulated wind in the U.S., increased production by 25% from 2021 levels. This increase allowed its Iowa utility to provide a double-digit surge of renewable energy to its customers in 2022, boosting the percentage of renewable energy served to its retail electric customers to 52.
