Got Raw Milk?

After more than a decade, the lawmakers in Des Moines sent a bill that will legalize the sale of unpasteurized milk to the Governor's desk. Senate File 315 will require raw milk producers to maintain antibiotic and bacteria records of the cows that are used for milk production. The bill can be seen below.SF315.pdf (iowa.gov)

Lawmakers approve bill loosening restrictions on home-based food businesses

BY: ROBIN OPSAHL The Senate sent legislation to the governor Wednesday that would loosen regulations on Iowans selling food made at home and in temporary establishments such as farmer’s market stands.House File 661 passed Wednesday on a 33-15 vote. The bill’s floor manager, Sen. Jesse Green, R-Boone, said the legislation is “pro-small business,” helping home food and processing establishments, food processing plants and temporary food establishments, and farmers’ market vendors.

Iowa Grain Indemnity Fund Board Votes to Reinstate Assessment Beginning July 1st

 The Fund provides indemnity coverage for Iowa farmers impacted by grain dealer and grain warehouse failures  The board that oversees the Iowa Grain Depositors and Sellers Indemnity Fund (Grain Indemnity Fund) voted today, as required by Iowa law, to reinstate fees on grain sold to or deposited at Iowa-licensed grain dealers and warehouses. The Grain Indemnity Board and the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship are following the process and fee schedule as required in Iowa Code 203D.
