2012 VS grad Lizzy Moen to sing at Jones County Fair

Lizzy Moen sings during the Party in the Park 'Riverside's Got Talent' event. Elizabeth (Lizzy) Moen, a 2012 Vinton-Shellsburg graduate, will perform from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, July 21, on the Free Stage of the Great Jones County Fair.  Moen has been singing for years, both in school projects and individually. She most recently performed during Party in the Park, where she was chosen as the winner of the "Riverside's Got Talent" event.

Challenge of Shakespeare inspires many to join ACT 1's 'Midsummer Night's Dream'

DOUBLE FEATURE Playing in matinees only is “Chimpanzee.” Rated G and running just 78 minutes, this Disneynature docudrama is a wonderful outing for the whole family.  Educational, emotional and entertaining – we went out of our way to add this to the schedule to be sure you wouldn’t miss this lovely film.

This action-adventure film, starring Liam Neeson and Rhianna, and featuring a host of alien invaders, will appeal to those who enjoyed the “Transformers” movies.

In Depth: Sold out 'Avengers' to remain on Palace screen another week

“The Avengers 3D” Held Over! Every Show a Sell Out So Far! Continuing Friday, June 1 through Thursday, June 7 is “Marvel’s The Avengers” in 3D.  Nick Fury’s gang of crusaders will battle on the big screen every evening at 7 p.m., and in matinees on Sunday and Monday, June 3 and 4, at 2 p.m. I’m so glad we’re keeping “Avengers” another week.

In Depth: Three Stooges make return to big screen in modern remake

  Enjoy a lighthearted hour and a half at the Palace this week!  “The Three Stooges” opens Friday, May 18 and runs through Thursday, May 24 at 7 p.m., and Monday, May 21 at 2 p.m. The film is well cast with master impersonations by Sean Hayes, Will Sasso, and Chris Diamantopoulos, who are made to look SO MUCH like the originals the poster fooled us all! The Stooges were raised in an orphanage.

VSHS speech students to perform for public Sunday; free pop and popcorn

The Vinton-Shellsburg Speech and Drama departments, under the direction of Le Cox, Marcy Horst and Eric Upmeyer, will present awards and performances from their 2011-2012 season on Sunday, May 20 at 1 pm at the Palace Theatre.  Presentations will include several State and All-State Speech groups and solo acts.  Awards will be presented to the Best Senior in Speech, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Thespian, as well as many others.
