World Race: Vinton native Rose Huber now in Thailand
The World Race is anything but a vacation, says Rose Huber.
The daughter of Jim and Conni Huber of rural Vinton is in the midst of a 10-nation world tour, working with a team of Americans who help people in a variety of ways.
We asked Rose for an update; below are her words:
Well. The World Race: 11 countries in 11 months.. Cedar 4 helps improve Nature Conversancy
NCCC team, Cedar Four’s sixth and final project is working withThe Nature Conservancy (TNC) and the Plymouth County Conservation Board in Westfield, Iowa. The Nature Conservancy is home to the Broken Kettle Grasslands, which is the largest prairie land in Iowa and is home to over 40 bison and a rare species of snakes. Plymouth County Conservation Board manages 2200 acres of parks and public recreational areas, including a hill used for snow tubing in the winter. Kirkwood releases Dean's list for Benton County

The team is working on a variety of projects that will contribute to the upkeep and beautification of the parks. The team will work in 11 of the county’s parks, which are used for leisure activities, exercising, outdoor education and observing wildlife to name a few. The National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) FEMA Corps team, Pine 3, united with the Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity (CVHFH) on September 20 and 21 for its first mini service assignment. Pine 3 worked with CVHFH on their “A Brush with Kindness” program doing exterior landscaping. “A Brush with Kindness” is a program run by the CVHFH that helps low-income homeowners by offering exterior home improvements.
