May 23, 2023The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Seeman, Primmer and Bierschenk present. The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. at the conference room at the Benton County Service Center.  Today, Gov. Reynolds released the following video message in response to applications for her landmark Student First Education Savings Account (ESA) program becoming available at 8:00 AM CT.  In the video message, Gov. Reynolds says:  “Today marks an important milestone for Iowa’s education system as universal school choice becomes a reality for Iowa families.

Today, Gov. Reynolds authorized the deployment of approximately 100 Iowa National Guard troops and 30 Department of Public Safety personnel to help secure the U.S. Southern border.   The announcement comes one week after Gov. Reynolds and fellow Republican Governors received a security briefing from Texas Governor Greg Abbott and a request to support Operation Lone Star to help secure the border following the end of Title 42.

On May 4th, we concluded the 90th General Assembly, and now we have concluded May! I have had a busy month interacting with constituents, working, and spending time with my family.  Governor Reynolds’ landmark Students First Education Savings Account (ESA) program, which promotes universal school choice for K-12 students in Iowa, officially opens for applications on Wednesday, May 31, at 8 a.m.   Parents and guardians can access the online application from a link on the Department of Education’s ESA webpage at educateiowa.
