Today, Gov. Kim Reynolds issued a disaster proclamation for Benton, Iowa, Jasper, Muscatine, and Poweshiek counties in response to severe weather that occurred on May 7. The governor's proclamation activates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and the Disaster Case Management Program for those counties.    The Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program provides grants of up to $5,000 for households with incomes up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level.

The 2023 Iowa State Legislative session adjourned sine die on Thursday, May 4th at about 12:30 pm. Sine die is Latin which basically means a specific day to assemble has not been set (for this year).There are dozens of bills that were passed by both chambers and already signed by Governor Kim Reynolds. One of the most important was HF718 - the property tax relief bill that the House passed on May 2nd and was signed into law on May 4th.

The 90th General Assembly is officially adjourned! Thursday, May 4th, was our final day. I ended our five months in Des Moines with a 99% voting rate and one day (excused) absence. You can count on seeing me all over Benton and Linn counties over the next eight months! Thank you all for your continued advocacy and participation in our state government.

To help provide consistency, clarity and transparency to landowners, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing new regulations that support landowners’ property rights while ensuring conservation of natural resources in the prairie pothole region of the United States through the effective use of easements. The proposed rule formalizes the existing process the agency uses to work collaboratively with landowners on farmland management recommendations where the Service owns conservation easements.
