Kate Wyatt to hold Camping Kickoff Events

Iowa House candidate Kate Wyatt has announced four (4) events to kickoff her campaign to represent Iowa House District 76. The new House District 76 covers parts of Benton, Black Hawk, and Tama Counties and includes the communities of Hudson, Evansdale, Gilbertville, La Porte City, Mt. Auburn, Dysart, Traer, and southern portions of Cedar Falls and Waterloo.

Benton Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioners April 20 Meeting

The next regular meeting of the Benton Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioners will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at 8:30 a.m. at the District Office, 1705 West D Street in Vinton.   Agenda items include: approval of minutes from previous meetings, public participation, approval of treasurer’s report and bills, approval of conservation plans, watershed reports, state cost-share programs, an update on NRCS activities, a review of the correspondence file, any other commissioner input or other business, and scheduling of the next meeting.

The Iowa House had a fairly busy week 12, as we debated bills on March 29th till 9 p.m. and till 7:30 p.m. on March 30th. One bill that the House passed was HF 2556, the Solar Energy System Tax Credit. This bill directs up to $5 million to be paid to those who installed solar panels up through December 31st, 2021 with the understanding a state tax credit would help offset the costs.

If you need an Absentee Ballots for the June Primary you can request them now

Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate announces the absentee ballot request period for the June 7 primary election is now open. Voters wishing to cast their ballot through the mail can submit their request for an absentee ballot beginning today. Iowa law allows a 70-day request period for absentee ballots.County auditors can begin mailing absentee ballots 20 days ahead of Election Day, which will be Wednesday, May 18.

Vinton Attorney Ray Lough Enters Race for Benton County Attorney

Thursday, Ray Lough, attorney and life-long resident of Vinton, filed nomination paperwork to run for the office of Benton County Attorney. Ray has a private law practice in Vinton, specializing in family, juvenile, and probate law.He is married to Patricia, a teacher at Vinton-Shellsburg High School. The couple has eleven adopted children, four of whom are still in school.

Week 11 turned out to be a pretty productive week as the Iowa House has now passed about two-thirds of the budgets for the year.House File 2567 makes changes to the Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE) rules. One change is it’s now mandatory to report child abuse of a child over 12 years old, not optional. Also, schools must keep written records of all complaints.
