City of Shellsburg Minutes 2/7/22
On February 7, 2022, a meeting of the Shellsburg City Council was called to order by Mayor Speckner at 6:00 pm in the Council Chambers. Roll Call was answered by Harvey, Thorkildson, Travis, Vogt, and Reeves. Mayor Speckner opened a public hearing for Ordinance #467, to adopt the updated “Code of Ordinances.” There was discussion as to which chapters and items were updated.

The Benton County Board of Supervisors will be accepting sealed bids for a meeting to be held on Tuesday March 1, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. for concrete in various areas at the Benton County Service Center located at 811 D Ave. Vinton, Iowa:There are (4) various sections that need concrete: 20X30, 200X115, 15X25 and 90X45 and all areas need to be 5 ½” deep.

School funding comes up short
Iowa ranked 40th for increasing per-pupil spending from 2014 to 2019—way below the national average. To help, I’ve been pushing for a 5% increase in funding for our K-12 schools this year. A solid boost would help ensure smaller class sizes, competitive salaries and benefits, and more resources to cover the rising costs of equipment, materials, utilities and busing.

Vinton City Hall and iVinton Office to be Closed or limiting hours
The City of Vinton will be making some major software updates during the month of February. Because of that, City Hall and the iVinton offices will be closed on February 21.February 22-25 the offices will be closed in the morning and open from 12:30-4:30 p.m.Please be patient as they work to make online bill paying available. There will also be email billing available and a new look to your paper statements.
