Hello District 75 from the State Capitol!
Our fourth week under the golden dome was very busy, and Tuesday, February 1st was a special kind of busy! It was the 37th annual Iowa FFA Legislative Symposium, and I’d like to give a shout-out to the FFA chapters from Belle Plaine, Benton Community, Iowa Valley, Union, and Williamsburg high schools for visiting and proudly representing the invaluable field of agriculture.

We ended our fourth week in the Iowa Senate. This week featured numerous subcommittees on legislation. Our committee meetings were lively with discussions on legislation and presentations from agencies and professionals as well. We have begun to prepare bills and legislation for floor debate, which is always a thrilling time in the Iowa Legislature.
Vinton Police Department Hiring Full-Time Police Officer
The City of Vinton is accepting applications for a full-time Police Officer position with a proactive agency in a growing community.Vinton Police Officers work 12 hours shifts with every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) off. The current starting wage for a certified officer is $27.55 (increasing to $28.38 7/1/2022) with the possibility of hiring incentives based on overall qualifications and certifications.
Silbernagel Announces Run for State Senate
Colman Silbernagel of Vinton announced Tuesday he will seek election in the newly formed Iowa Senate District 42, which covers most of Benton County and the rural areas of Linn County.“We are fortunate to have great leadership in Iowa,” said Silbernagel. “I am running for Senate to continue the historic investments we’ve made in Iowa’s students, to support parents’ involvement in their children’s education, and to ensure we’re taking care of our state’s veterans.

Investing in Iowa schoolsIt’s more important than ever to attract and keep the best and brightest teachers here in Iowa. That’s why I am pushing for school funding to ensure smaller class sizes, competitive salaries and benefits, and the resources necessary to cover the rising costs of equipment, materials, utilities and busing.Teacher-prep faculty and educators in training visited the Statehouse this week to talk with legislators about how teacher preparation programs are working to recruit, retain and support a diverse group of educators for Iowa schools.
Governor Reynolds announces expiration of Public Health Proclamation
Governor Reynolds signed the final extension of the state’s Public Health Disaster Emergency Proclamation today, announcing it will expire at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. The signed proclamation can be found here. The proclamation was first issued in accordance with the Governor’s executive authority on March 17, 2020, to enable certain public health mitigation measures during the state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

IRFA Applauds Iowa House for Passing Biofuels Access Bill
Today the Iowa House of Representatives passed House File 2128, a bill proposed by Governor Kim Reynolds to increase consumer access to higher biofuel blends like E15 and B20. In response, Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Executive Director Monte Shaw made the following statement: “Today was a victory for Iowa consumers. Every person in Iowa deserves the choice of higher blends like E15 and B20.
