Van Horne man tied to Mexican based Drug Trafficking Organization Imprisoned

             An Iowa man who conspired to distribute over 150 pounds of ice methamphetamine was sentenced to more than 21 years in federal prison.               Jeremey Aswegan, age 44, from Van Horne, Iowa, received the prison term after an October 7, 2021, guilty plea to one-count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.

City of Shellsburg Minutes 5-02-225-02-2022 a meeting of the Shellsburg City Council was called to order by Mayor Speckner at 6:00pm in the Council Chambers. Roll call was answered by Thorkildson, Travis, Vogt, and Reeves. Harvey was absent. Reeves motioned to approve the consent agenda, second by Vogt. All ayes. Belle Plaine awarded $300,000 investment in Downtown Housing Revitalization

Awards were made through the Downtown Housing Grant program, which provides support for downtown revitalization through new housing opportunities in communities with populations of 30,000 or below.

Union School Superintendent faces discipline by the Iowa Board of Education

The Union Community School superintendent faces discipline by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners due to the mishandling of an investigation involving former Union Middle School teacher, Mark Hookham. Hookham resigned in April 2021, during the investigation of inappropriate emails between Hookham and two middle school students. As a result of the investigation, Hookham's license was suspended for at least five years.
