Vinton-Shellsburg CSD is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.Meals will be provided, on a first come, first serve basis, at the sites and times are as follows:Meals are available to all children ages 1-18Shellsburg ElementaryBreakfast8:00 am-8:30amLunch11:30 am-12:15pm M-FNo registration or identification is required.

Republicans to host Candidate Forum May 21

On Saturday, May 21, the Benton County Republicans will be hosting a candidate forum for the Republican candidates running in the June primary in Senate District 42. The forum will be moderated by the Benton County Republicans and will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Vinton-Shellsburg High School. The public is invited to attend.

AG Miller secures $1.02 million for consumers deceived by TurboTax

 Intuit will pay $141 million for luring low-income Americans with 'free, free, free' services.Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller secured about $1.02 million from the owner of TurboTax, Intuit Inc., for deceiving more than 33,000 Iowans into paying for tax services that should have been free.  As a result of a multistate agreement, Intuit will pay $141 million in restitution to millions of consumers across the nation who were unfairly charged.

Input requested for proposed culvert replacement on 218 in Benton County

The Iowa Department of Transportation is requesting public input for a proposed culvert replacement on U.S. 218 over Pratt Creek, 0.1 mile east of Benton County Road V-61.The proposed project involves replacing the existing twin 6’ x 10’ reinforced concrete box culvert with a twin 10’ x 10’ reinforced concrete box culvert.Construction of the project is expected to begin in 2024.
