Vinton Fire Department takes kids on the ride of their lives

Of course, a ride on the fire truck is a big deal when you haven't even reached the ripe old age of 10. That's a huge deal!The Vinton Fire Department, as well as the Pink Heals fire truck, and the Mt. Auburn Fire Department made three loops through Vinton. With 11 loads of children from Tilford Elementary, the chilly day found students happily riding on the trucks.

VINTON-SHELLSBURG ROLLS OUT DIGITAL BACKPACK FOR PARENTS AND COMMUNITY

Friday Folders that put weight on your student's back and clutter on the kitchen counter aren’t the only way to get information home to parents now. The Vinton-Shellsburg school district has created an optional Digital Backpack that streamlines the flow of information. Like the other digital products in our lives, the digital backpack can be accessed anytime and anywhere.

Fire Prevention Week brings Kids and Firemen Together

Every year it's fun to watch our Vinton Fire Department share their knowledge with area children. The department visits children as young as preschool and through elementary age. They share with the children what to do if their clothes should catch on fire, telling them that they can't outrun the fire, but to Stop-Drop-and Roll. The department also talks with children about what to do if they are at home and a fire starts.

Vinton's Good Neighbors recognized

Vinton Unlimited will begin recognizing Good Neighbors in Vinton. We will be looking for people or businesses in the community that is doing things that improve or help Vinton be a ‘great place to live, shop, work, and play.’ This is an effort to recognize those whose good deeds may go unnoticed, to encourage people to look for the positive things in our community, and hopefully, prompt Vintonians to participate and become “good neighbors” themselves.

Operation E.D.I.T.H. Thursday Night at 7:00 p.m.

Operation EDITH is a fire-safety program that seeks to encourage the parents of young children to talk to their kids about the importance of fire safety...Exit Drill In The Home, thus the name "EDITH". The purpose is to educate early elementary school children and their families about the life-saving value of having a fire escape plan from their homes.

Dead Men and Women Talking

The Center Point Historical Society's annual Cemetery Walk took place on September 18 at the Center Point Cemetery. Among this year's five subjects who "talked" were a WWII Navy veteran, Raymond Durow, who survived the sinking of his ship by the Japanese; a 19th Century farm wife, Rebecah Leonard Gilchrist, who didn't survive a danger much closer to home; and John Osborne, a teenage soldier who survived the Revolutionary War.

Vinton Shellsburg Exceeds at Kirkwood Landscaping

Members went into this contest with an open mind and were excited to see what the day was going to bring. The day started with all members who participated going to an educational session to learn about their contests so they would know what to expect when arriving at the contest.
