AmeriCorps and the Vinton-Shellsburg High School Freshman AG class, have lent their hands in the harvesting of the produce from Old School Produce. It is estimated that to date, the gardens have produced around 1,800 lbs of carrots with more to go. Last week found the tomatoes coming on strong and the onions husked. Waiting to be harvested next are the Acorn, Delecata and Butternut squash.

A Cedar Falls couples counselor has been sanctioned by the state for making lewd or improper remarks to one of his clients.According to the Iowa Board of Behavioral Science, Cory Wumkes, who holds a mental health counselor’s license in Iowa, was providing couples counseling when he made “inappropriate verbal comments” and sent inappropriate text messages to one of the clients.

Tuesday found the Vinton Fire Department and other emergency services responding to two accidents throughout the day. The second was on Highway 218, south of Vinton at the intersection of 63rd St. and 24th Ave. The accident involved two pickups that collided at the intersection. No further information is available at this time.

L.O.S.T. Loved Ones Safe & Together, is a program to assist in identifying and locating community members who have been separated from their families or caretakers. Individuals who suffer from Alzheimer's Disease, Autism or other medical conditions which involve memory loss, confusion, or are unable to communicate, may wander away from their homes.

Each are located in storefronts in downtown Vinton. By: Co-Reporter, Alana FlemingOn Thursday, September 1st, the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA chapter held their local Greenhand Fire Up. They invited new faces to FFA to the greenhand night to gain knowledge about what FFA really is, what it means to be in FFA and some things they’ll get to experience during their membership. 14 students attended the leadership workshop to further their abilities.

A bit of Vinton can be found at the Jackson County Courthouse. Bobbi Alpers, a former Vinton resident, was honored with her portrait being added to the wall in the main courtroom. Alpers was the first female chief judge named to the Iowa Courts. "Judge Alpers broke new ground for women in the Iowa judiciary. She will forever be known as the first female appointed chief judge in the state of Iowa," Mark Cleve an Iowa Judicial District 7 Senior District Court Judge said.

The Vinton Guild of Fine Arts is at it again! In addition to the butterfly that can be seen across the alley from City Hall, the Guild has added a new piece of interactive art to the alleyways in Vinton with the Back Alley Art program. If you look to the east, off of 1st Ave. on the wall of the iVinton office, (in the alley of course) there is a brand new picture.
