At Thursday night's City Council meeting, Matt Boggess was on hand to accept a plaque in recognition of the Nathan's Miles glow-in-the-dark trail project's unique design. The trail won "Project of the Year Award in Transportation in the $500,000 to $1 Million" category for both Vinton and Baker Enterprises for their construction of the trail.

The Benton County Supervisors met in another special session to approve a new hire for the Benton County Attorney's Office in the collections department. The meeting opened with an attempt to go into a closed session, by Supervisor Rick Primmer citing Iowa Code 21.5 i. "To evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance or discharge is being considered when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that individual's reputation and that individual requests a closed session.
IOWA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS - January 29th, 2023 7:11 pm

The Iowa Department of Corrections will occasionally send out notices of escapees, deaths, or other bits of news to area news media. If it is a notice concerning anyone within a few miles of Vinton, the information will be published. WATERLOO – Alexander Joseph Carman, convicted of Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon and other charges in Dubuque County, failed to report to the Waterloo Residential Correctional Facility as required Friday.

I cannot, & will not agree to decisions that are leading our citizens down the path to total government control. .You may not believe that the decisions you are making are taking us down that road, but that's exactly what is happening.

Blake Hansen wears many hats in Vinton. His official title is Building Inspector|Code Enforcement Officer|Flood Plain Manager. He spoke to area Kiwanis about the progress made in Vinton. Over the last two years, Hansen has been in charge of reminding residents of the ordinances in Vinton. One of the largest successes has been the clean-up of cars in the city.

The Benton County Board of Supervisors discussed the elected official's raises that were recommended by the Compensation Board. The Compensation board had recommended that the officials should be awarded an 8.3% increase. Supervisor Rick Primmer made a motion for just a 5% increase. He asked his fellow supervisors if the county can afford to keep raising salaries at the suggested 8.
BENTON COUNTY EXTENSION - January 24th, 2023 2:13 pm

Benton County 4-H hosted a 4-H Cloverbuds Round Up and Winter Workshop on January 13 at the Benton County Extension Office in Vinton. 14 Benton County youth attended the event and experienced an Iowa 4-H educational offering titled “A Beautiful Oops” where they practiced art and literacy while making friends. This event built participants' sense of belonging and excitement around the 4-H program.

The Benton Community School District is seeking the approval of voters in the district to pass a 48.5 million dollar referendum. Property owners would be taxed at $4.04 for each $1,000 of the value of their property. For every $100,000 or assessed value, $405 would be added to the property taxes each year. This amount is in addition toapproximately $10 million insales tax revenue to cover the balance according to the school's website.

Blessed Hope Community Church. is pleased to announce the naming of David Condry to the position of Senior Pastor. In a statement from the elders of BHCC, they said, "We are in awe at God's good timing, provision, and faithfulness throughout this transition." A graduate of Nazarene Bible College, Condry first left Vinton to serve in the Chillicothe Free Methodist Church in Missouri for six years.
