Party in the Park Vision of the Future

The little guy in the orange was feeling the beats during Empty Pockets at Party in the Park Party in the Park was definitely a much smaller and shorter event this year. Social distancing circles were mapped out across Riverside Park, and limited vendors served the crowd of between 150-200 residents. While the theme was "Vision of the Future" I think we're all hoping that 2020 wasn't a glimpse of what's to come!The Empty Pockets were entertaining and shared their music with the crowd.

High-Voltage Transmission Structures and Lines to be inspected by Helicoptor

ITC Midwest released information to inform the community that they will be conducting aerial patrols of high-voltage transmission structures and lines throughout its service territory from approximately August 4th through the 17th, weather permitting. Helicopter patrols will be providing an overall status of the overhead transmission system owned and operated by ITC Midwest.

Vinton Lions Club Appoints New Officers

The Vinton Lions Club held an installation ceremony for the 2020-21 offiers on Wednesday Wednesday afternoon the Vinton Lions Club appointed new officers for the 2020-2021 year.The Lions Club is a service organization working in the Vinton Community. You can see them often in the Lions Club trailer at the Farmers Market, and they will also be at the Party in the Park. The Club is made up of community members who work and lead in various positions in the community.

COVID-19 update 7/30/20

Benton County As of 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, Benton County cases of COVID have reached 120 total cases since March. Of the 120, 84 have recovered, leaving 35 active cases in the county (there has been one death early on of an 83 year old man from Blairstown in early April.)Region 6In all of Region 6 which Benton County falls into, there are a total of 52 hospitalized with COVID-19.

Legion sends out Thank You to Donor

A big THANK YOU to Dana Henanhan for her generous donation of $1200 to George G. Luckey Post 57. She is visiting from Virginia at her Uncle Wilbur Corcran Jr.'s house. Upon hearing that the Legion had been closed for some time and are not having any fundraisers to help make expenses, she stated it was the best way she could think of to spend her stimulus money.

Iowa Department of Ag issue guidance on disposal of Unsolicited Seed Deliveries

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig confirmed today that the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship is aware that individuals in Iowa have received unsolicited seed shipments from China and other countries.The Department is asking anyone who receives unlabeled seed from an unknown origin to retain the original packaging and report it immediately at 515-281-5321.

Horst shares Update on the Vinton Palace

A new walk up window is one of the additions at the Palace, but this too won't be used anytime soon. "I can't tell you when we'll reopen" Marcy Horst manager of the Vinton Palace Theater began her remarks to the Vinton Kiwanis Club.Celebrating 20 years this year, the Vinton Palace has been a story of great success pulled off by a community full of volunteers. That all came to a halt, thanks to COVID. Horst reported that the Palace is ready to reopen with the concession stand remodel being completed and everything is ready for business, but there are just no movies to be had.

North Iowa Tractor Ride brings Iowa to Vinton

The North Iowa Tractor Ride brought all varieties of tractors for residents to enjoy as they passed 140 tractors rolled into Vinton on Thursday evening in preparation for the North Iowa Tractor ride. The ride covered parts of Benton, Buchanan, Black Hawk, Tama and Linn Counties. This is the 13th Annual ride for the group. The vintage and restored tractors were headquartered at the Benton County Fairgrounds for their overnight stay, and headed out to Brandon on Friday morning to see the "World's Largest Frying Pan.
