An event that began with soggy police officers culminated with barely a dry eye in the place Thursday night at Vinton-Shellburg High School.The Courage for Carly - Teaching Cancer A Lesson benefit for Vinton-Shellsburg kindergarten teacher Carly Meyer filled the high school cafeteria and Garrison Fieldhouse for the event.

On August 4, 2018, it was the best day of their lives as Wes and Carly Meyer said, "I do."  In their short time together, the two have faced challenges that are reserved for those that have been together much longer might face.

As part of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association's History in Motion, the Military Vehicle Transcontinental Motor Convoy made a stop in Belle Plaine at the local American Legion Post.

If you remember back in May we did this story about a man named Larry Ritland, the "Old Cycling Veteran." Larry's goal was to ride across the country and encourage younger veterans to become involved in their local Legion.

On Sunday afternoon, two area men received a Quilt of Valor thanking them for their service to our country. In a moving service presented at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home several area veterans filled the room along with their families for the ceremony.

A reception was held to honor the 150 women chosen to represent Vinton during our Sesquicentennial celebration this week. With the option to bring a guest, the Ray House was filled with ladies in attendance for the reception.

The artists from the Walldogs project, who designed & painted our latest murals were in attendance as the auction piece miniatures of the murals downtown were awarded to the highest bidder.
