Kersten Light Display begins Thanksgiving Night

I know some will ask, it happens every year, and the answer is, "Yes!" Yes, the Kersten light display will go on as usual this year. Vinton Public Library To host Annual Gingerbread Contest

The Vinton Public Library will be hosting our 3rd annual Gingerbread Contest. This year we decided not to limit the fun by only having gingerbread houses, you may now enter any type of edible creation that you can think of. Rules for entry: 1) Must be completely edible. 2) One entry per person/group 3) Must bring in completed entry form at the time of drop-off and 4) Please include one picture of each participant OR be available for a quick picture at the time of drop-off.

Vinton Lions Club Held Chili Supper Fundraiser

The Vinton Lions Club held a fundraiser chili supper at the fire station to benefit the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight. As usual, Vinton turned out to support the effort. The Club has been supporting the EIHF for the past several years with the chili supper which takes place the same night as the veterans Christmas parade.

Host Families Needed for Walldog Artists During Sesquicentennial

Upwards of 30 artists from across the country will gather in Vinton during the middle of August as part of the sesquicentennial celebration. The artists, which are part of a larger group known as the Walldogs, will return to Vinton to give our mural history a fresh coat of paint and add new murals as well. The Walldogs made their initial debut in Vinton in 2000 as part of the “Harvest of Walls” celebration which resulted in the creation of the current eight murals.

The Vinton-Shellsburg athletic community lost a great coach, friend and mentor – a man who was always looking for new ideas and approaches to coaching – when Ken Stark died on Monday, says fellow basketball coach Harold Shepherd. Shep, as he is known to VS basketball players and fans, came to Vinton in 1970, and started the first girls basketball program in decades.
