2024 Virginia Gay Hospital Legacy Award Recipient: Dawn Stephenson

Dawn's journey with VGH began in 1977, when she joined the hospital's Annex team as a high school senior. Over the past 47 years, Dawn's dedication to healthcare, patient safety, and education has had a lasting impact on the hospital and the community.

2024 Virginia Gay Hospital Legacy Award Recipient: Dave Vermedahl

Virginia Gay Hospital is honored to name Dave Vermedahl as the 2024 Legacy Honoree in recognition of his outstanding service and leadership on the Virginia Gay Hospital Board of Directors. Since joining the board in 1998—initially as Mayor of Vinton and, since 2001, in an ongoing role that now includes Vice Chair—Dave has played a vital role in guiding the hospital through transformative projects and initiatives that have enhanced local healthcare access and sustainability.

Vinton Shellsburg Salutes our Veterans

The high school created a flag as part of the Veteran's assembly at Vinton-Shellsburg. Thank you to Leon Schwenker for capturing the image. Hands down, one of the best events that Vinton-Shellsburg provides for the community is the annual Veterans Assembly. Denny Miller added the finishing touch to the table set for the POW/MIA veterans at the beginning of the ceremony, always a touching moment. As I snapped photos, I realized that I was trying to capture the feeling of the assembly via the clicks of the camera, at the same time knowing that I simply couldn't do it justice.

Don’s contributions as chair of the Virginia Gay Hospital Health Care Foundation Board have been transformative, bringing both growth and sustainability to the hospital’s mission of delivering outstanding healthcare services to the community.

Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation Honors Veterans through Pork for Patriots

Iowa Select Farms employees with Pork for Patriots event kits, October 25. Kits included placemats, cups, centerpieces and decorations for local Veterans Day celebrations. Iowa Select Farms supports Iowa veterans and military families by helping communities host Veterans Day celebrations.American Legion Post #57, Vinton, AMVETS Post #218, Vinton, AMVETS, Keystone and American Legion Post #166, Shellsburg were among 160 Iowa veteran-based organizations who are preparing to host Veterans Day celebrations with the support of Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation.

Annual Veterans Day Assembly, Monday, November 11

The annual Veterans Day Assembly will be held on Monday, November 11th at 9 AM.Vinton-Shellsburg is hosting our annual community-wide Veterans Day Assembly at the Middle School. Any and All Veterans are encouraged to attend. The community is invited to join us as we recognize our Veterans in the Middle School Gym.Prior to the assembly, all Veterans and spouses are invited to a breakfast served in the middle school cafeteria from 8:00 to 8:45 a.
