Darwin George Halstead

Darwin George Halstead passed away at his home in Gainesville, Texas on September 25. 2024. A graveside service will be held on November 2, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Bear Creek Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life at the George G. Luckey Post 57 in Vinton. Darwin was born on December 4, 1941, in Vinton, Iowa son of George and Mae (Mills) Halstead.

George “Tom” Hanna

George “Tom” Hanna, 93, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at his home in Vinton, surrounded by his loving family.  A Celebration of Tom’s life will be held at a later date.  Interment with military rites will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Vinton.Tom was born on January 28, 1931, in Vinton to George Raymond and Julia Alma (Gustafson) Hanna.

William “Bill” J. Barkdoll

Following a brief illness with congestive heart failure, William “Bill” J. Barkdoll, 68, passed away Monday, August 26, 2024, at Mercy Medical Center.  A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m,with a short informal ceremony at 4:00 p.m., at the Farmer’s Mercantile Hall, Garrison.  Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home, Vinton, is caring for Bill and his family.

Dean E Gorsch

Dean E Gorsch was born October 29, 1958, in Sigourney, Iowa the son of Edward Louis and Marilyn Elaine (Wyant) Gorsch. He graduated from Deep River Millersburg High School in 1977. He worked at Amana Refrigeration for many years. Dean served on the Blairstown Fire Dept., and was an EMT on the Blairstown Ambulance. He enjoyed hunting, cooking and gardening.

Elaine Kay (Cress) Boddicker

Elaine Kay (Cress) Boddicker, age 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the Keystone Nursing Care Center.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 26, 2024, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Newhall, Iowa with Rev. Jacob Dunne as celebrant. Interment will be held at St. Patrick and St. Paul Cemetery near Watkins.

Ranae Suzzanne (Secor) Griego

Ranae Suzzanne (Secor) Griego, age 73, formerly of Leander, Texas, died on October 17, 2024 at Hendrick North Hospital, Abilene, Texas. First born child of Wayne B (Ackerson) Secor and wife, Shirley Mae (Walsh) Secor. She was born July 24, 1951, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa. She is survived by her devoted children, Christine (David) Gross of Brookesmith, Texas; Stephanie Winstead of Leander, Texas; David Dart of Hiawatha, Iowa; and Rachel Markland of Vinton, Iowa.

Danny James Hughes

Danny James Hughes, 20, a student at Iowa Central Community College in Ft. Dodge, formerly of Vinton, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, in Ft. Dodge.A Celebration of Danny’s life will be held from 2:00 until 5:00 PM, Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton.  Memorials may be directed to the family.

Alan Lee Buseman

Alan Lee Buseman, age 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at his home in Vinton.  Memorial services are pending at this time. Alan was born on July 15, 1947, in Canistota, South Dakota, the son of John and Velma (Plucker) Buseman. He gave his life to Christ when he was 5 years old, and renewed that commitment when he was in college.

Mark Floyd Upah

Mark Floyd Upah, 66, of Belle Plaine, IA passed away October, 17, 2024 at Genesis Health Systems, Davenport, IA. Mark was born October 17, 1958 to Floyd J. and Adeline A. (Kubu) Upah in Marengo, IA. Mark grew up in Chelsea, IA and graduated from South Tama High School. Throughout high school and after, Mark farmed for Phil Fetter. He also worked at Tama Pack before moving to Belle Plaine where he worked DKM Manufacturing and Benco; earning his way to production supervisor.

Warren Lee Holst

Warren Lee Holst, 86, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, October 3, 2024, at St. Luke’s Transitional Care Center, Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service: 11 a.m. October 26, 2024, at Salem United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids with a Celebration of Life Gathering to immediately follow at the church. Private inurnment will take place at Maplewood Cemetery in Vinton, Iowa.
