Nicki Sue Purdy, age 72, of Mt. Auburn, IA, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at her home with family by her side.She was born April 22, 1952, in Vinton, IA, the daughter of Robert and Betty (Rosekrans) Dales. Nicki graduated from high school and on March 18, 1972, she married Gary Purdy at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Gary Purdy; one daughter, Amy Purdy; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way; one brother, Jon Dales; step-daughter, Kari (Dwaine) Brown; step-son, Robert (Angie) Purdy; sister-in-law, Diane Newman and brother-in-law, Lee Purdy.

Gary Everett Harrison was born July 10, 1943, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Ray and Nina (Geiger) Harrison. He graduated from Washington High School in Vinton in 1961 and began working at Wilsons Meat Packing plant. On December 18, 1965, Gary was united in marriage to Karen Sue Backes, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton. After Wilsons closed, Gary and Karen farmed together until 1984.

William H. Schlue, age 87, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Van Horne, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at his home at Grand Living in Cedar Rapids.Memorial services will be held at 1:00  PM, Thursday, October 3, 2024,at Salem United Methodist Church in Van Horne, with Rev. Carol Kress officiating.  Visitation will be held from 11:00  AM until service time, also at the church.

Jacqueline “Jackie” Kay Peterson, 83, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids, following a courageous battle with multiple myeloma.  Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 1, at Central Presbyterian Church, Newhall, with Pastor DanielSanford as officiant.  Friends may visit with the family from 9:00 to 11:00 a.

Wilhelm “Bill” Fuchs, 97, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Windsor Manor, Vinton.  Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 3, 2024, St. Mary Catholic Church, Vinton, with Father Jim Brokman as Celebrant.  Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., at the church, on Thursday.  Burial with full military rites will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.

Paul Simon Hinschberger, 94, of Belle Plaine, IA passed away Sunday, September 22, 2024 at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, IA. Paul was born November 3, 1929 in Fargo, ND the son of Manferd and Rose (Diemert) Hinschberger. He attended Shanley High School in Fargo before graduating from Assumption Abbey in Richardton, ND. Paul was married to Lucie Sauvageau, April 14, 1951 at St.

Thomas “Tom” George Engledow, 70, passed away of a heart attack on Thursday, September 19, 2024, while snorkeling with his family in the crystal clear waters of Curaçao in the Southern Caribbean, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 4, at Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home, Vinton.

Nellie Mae (Williams) Skinner, 79, of Keokuk, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024.Nellie was born July 7, 1945, in Keokuk, Iowa, to JB and Lora Williams.She was united in marriage with Thomas E. Skinner on Dec. 30, 1968. Thomas preceded Nellie in death on Jan. 10, 2019.Nellie is survived by three daughters: Leslie Erxleben of Keokuk, Lora (Andrew) Stevens of Keokuk, and Lisa (Justin) Ward of Van Horne, Iowa; four grandchildren: Emmy (15) and Libby (13) Ward, and Drew (11) and Cora (8) Stevens; and five siblings: James, Marvin, Keith, Luke, and sister Leetha Smith.

Gary “Bear” Charles Becker, 68, of Watkins, IA passed away September, 23, 2024 at his home.Gary was born January 7, 1956 to Louis and Mary (O’Brien) Becker in Cedar Rapids, IA. He graduated from Benton Community High School, class of 1974 and studied Ag Mechanics at Kirkwood Community College. Following school, he worked as a mechanic at Leo Kelly’s and for the Ford tractor dealership in Cedar Rapids.
