Letter to the Editor: Cruelty is the point
Dear Editor, The Iowa House presented House File 3, which severely restricts SNAP recipients on what they can purchase. Red meat is out. Bread is out. There are about 23 things that are actually in. Not surprisingly, Thomas Gerholt, our local representative from Atkins, supports this monstrous bill and is a co-sponsor.This is the kind of thing that should make Iowans proud.
Letter to the Editor: Papers...Papers Everywhere
Dear Editor, Can anyone remember the 60 Minutes Show when President Biden slammed former President Trump about the classified papers he removed from the White House and refused to return? I believe he called it disgraceful. Whose face is red now?The President copped an Attitude about the papers in his "locked" garage. "They were in my locked garage with my corvette.
Letter to the Editor: Weekend Thoughts about the Border visit
Dear Editor,1/6/2023It's a bit too late...Well, Well...What a surprise announcement. President Biden now believes we have a border crisis. Where has he been? Hey, maybe he believed his VP from her noteworthy appearance on Meet the Press. "The border is secure." He plans to make an appearance in the general area of the border this Sunday.
Letter to the Editor: Happiest Girl in the World
Dear Editor, Two noteworthy things occurred in 1966: I graduated from Washington High School here in Vinton, and Joe Paterno was hired as the coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions. [Only kidding about the first part!] I became a HUGE Penn State fan. I'd bleed navy blue and white.Even though Joepa won a record 409 football games, the last Rose Bowl appearance was in 1995.
Happy New Year!
I will be taking off on Friday and Monday over the New Year holiday. No, I won't be flying off to some exotic location or doing anything spectacular. I'll be working, but not on anything that you will see on the website. There won't be an outbound email on either of these days. However, I'll probably still be plugging information onto the site.
Letter to the Editor: Your tired, your hungry, your poor
Dear Editor, Is there a second Statue of Liberty on the border between the United States and Mexico? I thought it was outside New York. "Give us your tired, your hungry, your poor"... If there is, BLOW IT UP!!!We have problems in this country: unemployment, high gas prices, staggering food prices [if you can find what you want], mass shootings [we had 629 this year[, and so on.
Letter to the Editor: If we aren't happy is it our fault? Or...
Editor: In the opinion page of the C.R. Gazette and the D.M. Register today Nov. 27 there is nothing right with the world. Someone is always downtrodden or mistreated in some way. Perhaps – just perhaps it is their fault, but not recognizing that they want someone else to solve their problem; likely one they can solve themselves with their own effort.
Letter to the Editor: The assault of the Institution of Marriage continues
Dear Editor,The Neo-Dems continued their attack on our society, our institutions, and our families today with the signing of the ludicrously named “Respect for Marriage Act”. Just what is “marriage”?? Well, after today it means anything the government says it means. During the Clinton years marriage was defined by the government as the union of a man and a woman.
Letter to the Editor: Time to Move On
Dear Editor, Did you hear George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Hancock, and others turn over in their graves and mutter a collective, "You've got to be kidding me" recently? I did! Donald Trump, this country's former president with the biggest ego ever, wants the Constitution changed for him. I thought I'd heard everything absurd come out of his mouth since the 2020 election.
Letter to the Editor: Benefits to Vinton Living
Dear Editor, Vinton is the place to be; to live. I speak from my position of an 85. year old male living in a local nursing home. My wife arrived in Vinton three years ago, me two.Our family learned that the Virginia Gay Hospital Rehab facility was one of the best in the area ( we lived in Hiawatha at the time). Our daughter and myself decided to move to Vinton as well; last year I joined my wife.
