We Forgot
Rarely can I tell you what I was doing at this very moment last week, let alone 22 years ago. But I can. It had been a hectic weekend. This week had already turned into a change of plans, and it was only Sunday night. At that point in time, we were in the process of trying to sell a house in Independence while living 100 miles away in Washington, Iowa. Letter to the Editor: Is inflation under control?
Editor:We have all heard our President say how good his Bidennomics is performing, but it is this - as a kinder critic would say “a tall tale” or as logic tells us a lie. In fact, President Biden has been telling “tall tales” his entire career. Inflation is under control and is lessening? Under President Trump my small order of McDonald's fries was $2.

Editor:I have been privileged to make 82 orbits around our sun. So I have seen and witnessed a lot of foreign affairs, beginning with the Korean War, Then Vietnam (A cousin served in country, and I in Thailand both of us USAF). Then Panama, then Grenada. Then Iraq (twice) then Afghanistan. Now we are fueling Ukraine’s War effort. We have spent billions of taxpayer dollars and the scorecard is dismal.
Letter to the Editor: Doomsday Climate Change Hysteria
Dear Editor, Some Agronomists suggest an excess of CO2 is beneficial to green crops such as corn, soybeans, alfalfa and small grains. A bountiful harvest means we can feed more of our people worldwide. I believe we need to re-evaluate the data and make sure we are not moving in a dangerous direction for the health of the world's people. I also suggest that if there is a "war" on cattle - it must cease.
Letter to the Editor: T'aint funny no more
Dear Editor;Where has the humor gone?My goodness, it seems forever that I’ve heard a funny story; told by a real storyteller to boot. When you get a goodie to pass on, one discovers just one-half of your audience might get the punch line, especially from the younger generation. And, of course, one must be careful not to make fun of someone or something.
Around the town
There are times that I look at the things our little town has created. I don't even notice them sometimes because I'm just used to seeing them. We are used to our awesome play areas for our kids, courtesy of the Vinton Parks and Rec Department, the pickleball courts, parks, the splash pad and pool. There are benches, new pavilions, water fountains and I'm sure other things I'm not even thinking about.

Scammers are out again
I had a note from a "friend" asking if I used Amazon. Having just placed an Amazon order I thought it was referring to something else. So I said, "Yep." I thought this was odd because I never talked via email with this guy. Usually, if there is an issue that we need to discuss it's on the phone or in person. I suspected that I might be talking to a scammer so I answered in one word answers.
