Laugh with Kathy: Mamma Said
Mamma Said:As a child, my mother told us that we could do anything we wanted to do if we made up our mind and tried hard enough. I have believed that my entire life until recently. It turns out that Mom was wrong. I can tell you for a fact that I am NOT capable of doing some things despite my best efforts. We have lived on 14 acres for over ten years, and I decided it was time that I learn to drive my husband’s ZTR (zero turn) mower.
Letter to the Editor: Wake up
Dear Editor, So, here's the deal. There are 3,155,070 people who live in Iowa. Fifty-three of them have succumbed to the China Virus and that is very unfortunate. My condolences to their families and friends. The majority, if not all, had pre-existing conditions that made them vulnerable. That is 1 in every 59,530 Iowans who have died.As of today, there have been 1995 cases in Iowa.
Letter to the Editor: What else is there?
To all of you. What if it works on 90% or more on death's door? What will you say? A Michigan State Rep. Karen Whitsett of Detroit with death as the last stop was able to get a prescription for this drug therapy. She is recovered. She is alive. What say you now? We are Americans, innovation is in our DNA.
Laugh with Kathy: What is your talent?
I remember watching the Miss America Pageant with my father when I was a young girl. It was sometime in the mid 1960s and Miss Kansas won the title. She lived about 30 miles from where we lived at the time, and I was beside myself. My dad told me that someday I might be able to be Miss America too. Honestly, I was all about the fancy dress and tiara and didn’t really understand what it would take to become Miss America.
Letter to the Editor: Make it stop!
To the Editor,To my chagrin, and I can assure you many others, who opened your website to see another edition of the local amateur’s medical opinion/propaganda. This is what happens when a person watches too much Fox TV and becomes susceptible to the influence of celebrities and propagandists. I know that Vinton Today likes people to mix it up especially when politics are concerned but providing a constant platform to one person to parrot a “cure” that may or may not work is no different that the snake-oil salesman hawking their product as a miracle drug.
Laugh with Kathy: The Law of Good Intentions
While visiting my family in Texas over Thanksgiving, Gene enjoyed trap shooting one afternoon. He talked about it for days (Like seriously days! It takes twelve hours to drive from Texas to Iowa and he JUST KEPT TALKING!), so I decided that a great Christmas gift would be to buy Gene a clay trap thrower. How hard could it be? Well, it turns out that it is a bit more involved than just having good intentions.
Letter to the Editor: And so it goes
Dear Editor: Democrats and my critics will have a hard time backtracking if this works before other therapies are available. My prayer is that recoveries increase and fatalities decrease!! And that researchers find plasma or other therapies 100% successful. Time is of the essence we can’t wait for traditional double-blind trials.
Being a Senior Citizen from the mid 1900's
It's finally happened. I'm old. I had shut the CD off in the car. The player holds 6, but some idiot wasn't that hip on how to change the disks, so while driving, she ejected a disk and pushed another one into the player. She forgot that there is an "eject" as well as a "load" button. It was the state of the art design for my 2002 Lexus. I now had 2 disks in the same slot.
Laugh with Kathy: Jurassic Park
There is a part of our yard where the grass meets the woods that I respectfully refer to as Jurassic Park. I say respectfully, because things cross into there and don’t come out again. We have lost bird feeders, shovels, potted plants and other items to the abyss. I have seen squirrels and chipmunks run into the woods not to be seen again. Our dog won’t venture past the grass line.
Laugh with Kathy: Games without Game Pieces
We’re all feeling the effects of Covid 19 in some way, and many people are trying to find ways to entertain their children while waiting for school to resume. We have always lived quite a distance from our family, so long car trips were a regular occurrence for us. Keeping our children entertained on these trips resulted in some great games without game pieces.
