Rust wraps up track title in victory lane at Benton County Speedway
Season and track champions were crowned Sunday night in the final night of IMCA Weekly Racing for the 2023 season at Benton County Speedway. And Joel Rust earned a double celebration at The Bullring. Rust, who entered the night with a 15 point lead in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds presented by Beaty Excavating, simply needed to take the green flag in the main event to lock up the title.
Girls Swimming Recap @ Waterloo 8/24
Tough meet - against a talented team about 4 times our size (Waterloo is a co-op of both Waterloo East & West, as well as Don Bosco & Union schools), and some of our girls weren't feeling 100% last night - but we managed to score some points and have some decent swims. Senior and captain Tori Elwick showed her grit all night. She put up strong splits in relays and solid performances in her individual 50 & 100 Freestyle - picking up pretty much where her best times were at the end of last season.
“Kids Nickel Bag Night” at the races
This Sunday night at the Benton County Speedway Bullring will be “Kids Nickel Bag Night”. The first 50 kids to register at the Lil Racer Car Clubhouse will receive a FREE bag of nickels for their very own! We will have racing flags, stuffed animals, and “Coloring pictures for Trophies!”. Lots of Greg Kastli trophies to give away. Get your free juice pouches and help us empty the freezer of popsicles.
Kiwanis Boomtown 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Kid run/walk August 26
The Vinton Kiwanis will hold the annual Boomtown 5K Run/Walk and a 1 Mile Kid run/walk on August 26th. Registration for the race will be from 7-7:45 a.m. with the race beginning at 8:00 a.m. Meet on the east side of courthouse!Cost: $25 per person or $50 for a family of 3 or more. Registration is open here at http://getmeregistered.com/KiwanisBoomtown5K All registrants will receive a goody bag on the day of the race!The race will benefit the Operation Backpack program for the Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District.
Championship night rescheduled for August 27 at Benton County Speedway
The old saying goes, “Good things come to those who wait.”In the case of Benton County Speedway, it’s going to be great things well worth the wait Sunday, August 27.With the August 20 season championship program postponed due to dangerous heat indexes, the IMCA Weekly Racing season will now wrap up on Sunday, August 27 at The Bullring, and also feature the originally scheduled championship night for the inaugural Pro Late Model Tour.
Lil Racer Car Club Finishes the regular season at the Bullring!
This Sunday night, the Benton County Speedway Bullring Lil Racer Car Club, will be OPEN for all the Lil Racers on Season Championship Night! The Lil Racer Car Club has been sponsored by Dodge Street Tire and Auto of Iowa City The weather will be a hot one, so make sure you stay hydrated, with our juice pouches and freezer pops. Color us a picture to receive a Greg Kastli or Scott Hogan trophy! Be sure to get your racing flag, a stuffed animal or two, and your prize ticket.
Champions to be crowned this Sunday at Benton County Speedway
The IMCA Weekly Racing points season comes to an end this Sunday at Benton County Speedway. Season championship racing will be held in all six divisions August 20, with points champions decided by night’s end at The Bullring. A number of close points battles will highlight Sunday night action, including four drivers who hold leads of fewer than five points.
Thornton takes Bald Tire Bash checkers at Benton County Speedway
Dylan Thornton raced the top groove to a big payday in Sunday’s Bald Tire Bash at Benton County Speedway. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car special, which required a tread depth of no greater than 5/32 of an inch on any tire, featured a 50-lap headliner at The Bullring that resulted in a $2,500 winner’s share for the Keystone driver. From a row two start, Thornton battled pole-sitter Leah Wroten early for the top spot in the Christie Door Company main event.
Racing for Autism, Bald Tire Bash August 13 at Benton County Speedway
Although the rain won last weekend, racing will resume Sunday, August 13 at Benton County Speedway with the rescheduled Racing for Autism / Bald Tire Bash August. Racing for Autism, presented by Every Piece Matters, is the theme for the August 13 show and a $2,000 winner’s share will be up for grabs in the second annual Bald Tire Bash for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars presented by Christie Door Company.
Lil Racer Car Club looking forward to Sunday's Race
Over 105 school backpacks, FILLED with school supplies, were given away to young racing fans under 14 years of age at the Bullring last Sunday night. Kids went home very happy, with new school bags AND some took home Cow trophies, simply by coloring pictures! “Lil Racer of the Week" sponsored by The Pizza Place of Center Point” went to a young lady from Norway Iowa.
