Kiwanis Boomtown 5K Run/Walk 2023 Saturday, August 26th

The Vinton Kiwanis will hold the annual Boomtown 5K Run/Walk and a 1 Mile Kid run/walk on August 26th. Registration for the race will be from 7-7:45 a.m. with the race beginning at 8:00 a.m. Meet on the east side of courthouse!Cost: $25 per person or $50 for a family of 3 or more. Registration is open here at http://getmeregistered.com/KiwanisBoomtown5K All registrants will receive a goody bag on the day of the race!The race will benefit the Operation Backpack program for the Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District.

Racing for Autism, Bald Tire Bash up next at Benton County Speedway

The home stretch of the 2023 season kicks off in a big way this Sunday at Benton County Speedway.Racing for Autism, presented by Every Piece Matters, is the theme for the August 6 show and a $2,000 winner’s share will be up for grabs in the second annual Bald Tire Bash for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars presented by Christie Door Company.The Stock Car special, which is draw/redraw and pays $200 to start the 50-lap A main, will require a tread depth of no more than 5/32” on all four tires.

Kriegel, Tuttle, Morrison earn first wins at Benton County Speedway

(Madison Adams photo) A trio of drivers set out to “Do the Dew” during Mountain Dew Night Sunday at Benton County Speedway. By night’s end, Briar Kriegel, Nolan Tuttle and Robby Morrison celebrated their career first feature wins at The Bullring. Kriegel took top honors in the 15-lapper for IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks presented by Vermedahl Logistics.  From a second row start, Kriegel quickly worked into contention and pulled ahead of front row starters Scott Siems and Michael Kimm.

It's back to school time in the Bullring for the Lil Racer Car Club Membership

This Sunday in the Bullring Lil Racer Car Club, there will be backpacks filled with school supplies to be given away to the Lil Racer Car Clubhouse members!Over 100 school backpacks have been collected and filled by Crew Chief Janice. The Lil Racer Car Club will be ready to give these out to the kids on Sunday July 30. How does your son or daughter get one of these? Register/sign in at the clubhouse that night from 3:30-to 7:00 and receive a ticket to give to Janice.

Mountain Dew Night this Sunday at Benton County Speedway

Harris tops late models, DeVilbiss scores first Benton County Speedway win

Brian Harris led wire-to-wire in an appearance by the Pro Late Model Tour Sunday night at Benton County Speedway. (Spencer Emley Photos)  Brian Harris impressed in qualifying, then ran away during the main event when the Pro Late Model Tour made its second stop of the season at Benton County Speedway. The Late Model veteran earned the most passing points through heat race qualifying after charging from an eighth place start to second at the checkers. He then drew the ace during the invert redraw, leaving him on the pole for the 25-lap main event.

Pro Late Model Tour returns Sunday to Benton County Speedway

The return of the Pro Late Model Tour headlines Summer Thunder action this Sunday, July 23, at Benton County Speedway. The first-year tour made its inaugural stop earlier this season at The Bullring and is set to return in a $1,500-to-win, $250-to-start event Sunday. Carter is speedy in IMCA SportMod win at Benton County Urbana Five Memorial

Always a force to be reckoned with, Brayton Carter returned to Benton County Speedway to win Sunday’s Urbana Five Memorial feature for Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. He’d also topped the Bulling special in 2020. (Photo by Spencer Emley) Brayton Carter brought his ‘A’ game back to Benton County Speedway. As a result, he took $2,000 home to Oskaloosa. Carter reeled in cousin Dylan VanWyk, took the lead just after midway and outran Taylor Kuehl and hard chargers Matt Avila and Tony Olson in winning the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature, the nightcap for Sunday’s ninth annual Urbana Five Memorial special.

Big paydays are on the line for Urbana Five Memorial at Benton County Speedway

The Urbana Five Memorial has always been one of the biggest events of the year at Benton County Speedway. This year’s edition promises to be the biggest yet. The ninth annual event, which honors the memory of five area youth who lost their lives in a traffic accident just a few miles north of Vinton in 2015, will boast increased purses across the board this Sunday, July 16 at The Bullring.
