Spring Thunder special to open 2023 season April 30 at Benton County Speedway

The first green flag of the season is set to wave during Spring Thunder action Sunday, April 30 at Benton County Speedway.The special event serves as the first stop for the inaugural season of the Pro Late Model Tour and will offer increased prize money to a number of divisions that compete weekly at The Bullring.In addition to the $300-to-start, $1,500-to-win Late Model special, Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds will vie for a $1,250 winner’s share and qualifying eligibility for this year’s Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational.

Color Rush Dodgeball Tournament April 29, 5:00 p.m.

Iowa High School Athletic Association releases football district assignments

The Iowa High School Athletic Association on Monday released its high school football assignments for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.Teams in the eight-player division through Class 4A are assigned to districts and Class 5A teams are separated into groups. Assignments are on a two-year cycle.Schedules for the 2023 and 2024 seasons will be released in April, according to the IHSAA.

Bobcat Coaches The face-off between Vinton-Shellsburg and Benton Community on the basketball court in Des Moines has been the talk of the town. Vinton-Shellsburg knocked the team that was considered to be the best, Estherville off their first-place standing. The game finished in Vinton's favor at 54-46. Benton Community took on Des Moines Christian. It was clear that the Bobcats weren't fooling around.

Benton Community basketball player Tatum Schroeder Benton Community Bobcats took on Des Moines Christian Lions following the Vinton-Shellsburg shoot out against Estherville.Kicking off the game, Joe Notch was chosen to be recognized with the Sportsmanship award for Benton Community. While the team came to fight for a title, they were also carrying the weight of knowing that a fellow Bobcat sophomore Tatum Schroeder had been diagnosed with leukemia.
