Cordes, Reynolds, Vanous, Rick sweep championship night honors at Benton County

(Photo by Jim Wittke) Season championship racing brought the IMCA weekly racing season to a close Sunday night at Benton County Speedway.Champions were crowned in each of the six divisions and four of the titlists went out in impressive fashion by celebrating in victory lane.Troy Cordes needed to finish within one position of Dallon Murty to secure his career ninth track title at The Bullring in the IMCA Modifieds presented by KISS Country 96.

Season championships Sunday at Benton County Speedway

The season-long points battles come to an end this Sunday, August 21 at Benton County Speedway.Points champions will be crowned in six weekly divisions during season championship night at The Bullring.IMCA Modifieds presented by KISS Country 96.5, IMCA Stock Cars presented by Vermedahl Logistics, IMCA Northern SportMods presented by Christie Door Company, IMCA Hobby Stocks, IMCA Sport Compacts and INEX Legends presented by Legends.

Berry is best in Bald Tire Bash at Benton County Speedway

(Photo by Jim Wittke) Sure, the $2,000 was nice, but Tom Berry Jr. had extra motivation Sunday night at Benton County Speedway.Berry, who already earned qualifying eligibility for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational in his IMCA Modified, was looking to do the same in his IMCA Stock Car for the B&B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational.He did just that during the Bald Tire Bash, which required drivers to use tires with a tread depth of no more than 5/32”.

Lil Racer Car Club activities for Sunday August 14

With only two weeks remaining in the Bullring Lil Racer Car Club season, we have a very exciting night planned for the young racing fans this week! All kids under the age of 14 are asked to stop by the club house and register by signing our notebook. ( Club Registration is over for the season and we will ask for renewals next year. ) The K3 IMCA Sportmod driver, Kyle Olson of Cedar Rapids has prepared 50 fan bags AND 50 bags filled with candy, to be given to the FIRST 50 kids who sign the notebook! Upon signing the book, kids will also receive their ticket, to be presented to Crew Chief Janice Smith in order to receive one of over 100 FREE filled school backpacks, filled for our “Back to School Night” event.

Bald Tire Bash, Sport Compact Super Sunday August 14 at Benton County Speedway

There’s something for everyone this Sunday at Benton County Speedway.Due to last week’s postponed event, the August 14 racing program at The Bullring is going to be chock full of excitement as the season enters its final weeks.The Bald Tire Bash, paying $2,000 to the winner of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature presented by Vermedahl Logistics, will headline on-track action Sunday night.

Shellsburg Area Community Group (SACG) 10th Annual Golf Fundraiser, August 7

Shellsburg Area Community Group rescheduled the 18 hole 4 person best shot golf tournament. The event will be held on Sunday, August 7 @ 9am. To register a team, contact Wildcat Golf @ 436-4653. If not a golfer, go check out the donated items in a silent auction, as well as an opportunity to purchase cash raffle tickets. This fundraiser funds such things as the Shellsburg Easter egg hunt, family fun night donation for July 4 fireworks bouncy houses/other items for Shellsburg's Big Day free of charge to the public, flower gardens/flower pots, high school scholarships and etc.

VSU Special Olympics Team Fundraising Event August 20

Tammy Zimmerman, Coach for the VSU Special Olympics team, along with a group of parents and athletes made a visit to the Kiwanis Club. The local Kiwanis Club helps to support the group. Assistant Coach, Mike Kramer shared about his experiences with his son Zach who joined the VSU Special Olympics team at the age of 8 years old. At first, his dad said he wasn't sure how it would go.

Bald Tire Bash, Racing for Autism, Kids’ Backpack Night headline August 7

Only three nights remain on the 2022 schedule for Benton County Speedway and each provide something extra.Perhaps the biggest of the three nights is the August 7 program that, in addition to IMCA weekly racing, features Racing for Autism, Kids’ Backpack Night and the first of its kind Bald Tire Bash for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars presented by Vermedahl Logistics.

Nezworski nabs IMCA Late Model checkers at Benton County Speedway

(Photo by Jim Wittke) VINTON, Iowa (July 24) - Andy Nezworski made the most of the lone appearance for the IMCA Sunoco Late Models this season at Benton County Speedway.The southeast Iowa racer ran down race-long leader Dalton Simonsen and stole the lead with two laps remaining to take the thrilling win on the quarter-mile.From his pole position start, Simonsen rocketed into the lead and quickly pulled way from the pack while Nezworski battled Bobby Hansen over numerous laps for second.
