Vikette Basketball Team visits Kiwanis
Ryan Davis, and the Vinton Vikettes basketball team, spoke with the Vinton Kiwanis group.Davis shared the accomplishments of the team. Vinton-Shellsburg Bowling Teams Victorious
Tonight, was our first bowling meet and all teams were victorious. I am so proud of the spirit these kids bring to the table. It is such a great sight to have members stepping up and taking on the challenge in the new season. Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes fall short
Class 3A Seventh-ranked Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes fell short to the Class 1A third-ranked North Linn Lynx on Saturday evening at Kirkwood Community College’s Johnson Hall Rivalry Saturday.After the Vikettes took a brief 5-4 lead, the Lynx held the advantage lead after one quarter 19-12, the Lynx had 38-28 at the half. At the end of the third quarter the Vikettes were behind 38-50.
Kreutner signs with Kirkwood Community College
Sophia Kreutner, the daughter of Brian and Jennifer Kreutner has signed with Kirkwood Community College with plans to join the softball team. Kruetner's future plans include attending Kirkwood's Ag Business transfer program. Congratulations Sophia!
Three Area Schools in the the top 8 Girls' Basketball Rankings
The latest basketball rankings are in from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. All three area schools are listed in the top 8 in the rankings. Benton Community came in 5th 19-6, Vinton-Shellsburg at 7th 15-9 and Center Point-Urbana 21-4 in the Class 3A rankings.The schools will only need to knock out Estherville-Lincoln Central, Unity Christian, Davenport Assumption and West Marshall (Ranked 1-4 respectively) as well as West Liberty who stands in the 6th slot.
Three area High school girls’ basketball teams Ranked
The 2022-23 Iowa high school girls' basketball season opened practice last week, with competition beginning this week. Benton, Center Point-Urbana, and Vinton-Shellsburg girls’ basketball teams are in the preseason Cedar Rapids Gazette’s rankings.V/S opens the regular season this week away at Grinnell on November 17th at 7:30 p.m. Next week Center Point Urbana will open their regular season away with Marion on November 22nd and Benton Community opens its regular season away on November 26th at CPU.
Benton County Undivided Winter Games December 6
Benton County Undivided: Winter Games will be held December 6th at the Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School. We will put school rivalries to the side, and unite students served by Special Education programs throughout Benton County. The goal of this event is to highlight our similarities rather than our differences! The winter games are open to any student pre-school through 12th grade served by a special education program in Benton County.
Vinton-Shellsburg Dance Team Dance Apparel Store Open through November 17
The VS Voyager Dance team is selling apparel to raise money for team expenses. The online store will close on November 17th. Once store is closed and apparel is delivered the extra profits from the store will be donated back to the Voyager Dance Team.
Jakob Becker bowls a perfect game at Berry's Lanes
It all started when Jakob Becker was about four years old. His older sister Anna was in a bowling league and he had nothing to do on those Saturday mornings. Seeing the young Becker needed something to do, Steve Berry, would let him roll a ball down an empty lane while he waited. Just about a year ago, on November 20, 2021, Becker who was only 13 had bowled 7 games that day during a tournament.
