Benton Community Bobcats took on Des Moines Christian Lions following the Vinton-Shellsburg shoot out against Estherville.Kicking off the game, Joe Notch was chosen to be recognized with the Sportsmanship award for Benton Community. While the team came to fight for a title, they were also carrying the weight of knowing that a fellow Bobcat sophomore Tatum Schroeder had been diagnosed with leukemia. Sports commentators continuously referred to Estherville Lincoln Central as "Goliath" in the game against Vinton-Shellburg. In true David form, the Vikettes gave Estherville a "come to Jesus" game. Coming from behind, the Vikettes pulled a win out of the bag stomping the expected champions in a 54-46 win. The girls' basketball teams in both Vinton-Shellsburg and Benton Community have been in a nail-biting competitions all season. Vinton Shellsburg girls' team beat Grinnell at Grinnell by nine points in a final score of 52-43. Not being left out, Benton Community girls took West Liberty in a 53-44 on their own court in Van Horne.The Well Fargo Arena in Des Moines will be the next chance for the 3A class, to show their best games. 
Vinton-Shellsburg Bowlers Celebrate with a little paint
Vinton-Shellsburg boys and girls bowling teams are headed to compete for a state title. The team headed out to Ehlingers and celebrated by painting the town black and gold. The Vinton Shellburg students have been bringing it this season.
