Durbala receives Central College (Iowa) football honor
Blade Durbala was honored for his contributions to the Central College football team this past fall at the squad’s recent awards banquet.The Dutch finished 12-1 overall, 10-0 in the regular season and 8-0 in the American Rivers, winning their 32nd conference championship. Central made its 22nd NCAA Division III playoff appearance, advancing to the national quarterfinals.

An exciting week at State for the Boys' Wrestlers. The first day brought the team to 3rd place.- Aldin Swanson: 1-0- Carter Lamont: 1-1- Cooper Sanders: 1-0- Gabe Sanders: 1-0- Brady Ortner: 1-0- Curtis Erickson: 1-1Everyone moved on to the second day. Results for the 2nd day quarterfinals and the 2nd round consolations, the team tied for 3rd place- Aldin Swanson: 0-2- Carter Lamont: 0-1- Cooper Sanders: 1-0- Gabe Sanders: 1-0- Brady Ortner: 1-0- Curtis Erickson: 0-1In the heartbreak round, the team congratulated Aldin, Carter and Curtis on an awesome season and will cheer them as they come back next year.

Cooper and Gabe Sanders become the first Viking wrestlers to be State finalists since 1990-91DES MOINES – The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking varsity wrestling team logged four quarterfinalists and three semifinalists on Day two of the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) State Wrestling Championships at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.Gabe Sanders (152), Cooper Sanders (145), Brady Ortner (170) and Aldin Swanson (113) were the four quarterfinalists.
Iowa High School Sports Network to Broadcast State Wrestling Tournament
The Iowa High School Sports Network will broadcast the Individual State Wrestling Tournament semifinal and final rounds from Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines on February 18-19. Kirtz named as Senior Scholastic Winner
The Iowa High School Swim Coaches Association has named its 2022 Boys Academic All-State Team and Senior Scholastic honoree. Carter Kirtz of CPU, who swims for Vinton-Shellsburg, has been named to the team and is the Senior Scholastic winner for the sport of swimming.This award goes to the top student-athlete in Boys' high school swimming state-wide.
Vikette basketball advances to the Regional Final
Vikette basketball advances to the Regional Final for the first time since 2003-04VINTON – The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette varsity basketball team (15-8) took on the Wahlert Catholic Golden Eagles (9-14) inside Garrison Fieldhouse on Feb. 16 and earned a 53-49 win over the Golden Eagles.Alyssa Griffith and Sophia Kreutner each scored 11 points, Ashlie Meyer added eight points, Brylee Bruce, Kalie Burke and Abby Davis added four points each, and Julia Johnson added nine.

McKenna serving on 2022 Board of Directors-Sports Field Management Association
Sports Field Management Association (SFMA) – the non-profit, professional association comprised of 2,700 men and women professionals overseeing sports fields worldwide and critical to athletes’ safety – recently confirmed its 2022 Board of Directors. James Bergdoll, Certified Sports Field Manager (CSFM), Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) was elected President and will serve a one-year term.
Shellsburg T-Ball/Little Leage Registration Begins
On Sunday, from 3-5 p.m., there will be a T-Ball/Little League sign up at the Shellsburg Elementary Gym. There is also an online form that can be completed to register for the season. See link here. Please mail the form in along with your payment. There is also a need for coaches.
