The Benton County Speedway "The Bullring" announces the tentative schedule for 2022. The season is scheduled to kick off on April 6, with the IMCA Frostbuster.See the schedule below!Below the schedule is a wish list for the Lil' Racer Car Club, which provides prizes and treats for the children to win and enjoy. Ideas for purchases includes toys of any size, games, movie theatre passes, bubbles, crayons and coloring books, stuffed toys, large bags of candy and bubble gum.

Tuesday night provided another big night for the Stormin’ Viking Swim Program as they recognized the past and the present on Senior Night at the Braille School pool.  Facing WaMaC foe Wiliamsburg, the home team came out with a convincing 59-35 victory.  On the night the Vikes won 7 of 11 events, taking command of the meet early and never letting up.

Three days after seeing the 25-year-old 200 Freestyle record fall, the Stormin’ Vikings saw two more records go down in back-to-back events Tuesday night in Grinnell as the team split duals with host Grinnell and Oskaloosa.  Carter Kirtz captured the 500 Free in a school-record time of 5:08.87, bettering the previous mark of 5:14.39 set by Matt Lehman in 2005.

The Stormin’ Vikes continue to push towards their goal of the most successful season in team history.  Saturday they traveled to Waterloo coming away with a solid second-place finish in the annual Tro-Hawk -Invitational.  Decorah once again proved too deep and talented to overcome, but the team did manage to finish ahead of Spencer, host Waterloo, Newton and Keokuk in duplicating last years’ second-place finish at this meet.

Viking wrestlers defeat Clippers 58-36; lose to Raiders 52-27VINTON – The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking varsity wrestling team locked up with the Clear Creek Amana Clippers and Williamsburg Raiders in a double dual in Garrison Fieldhouse on Jan. 6 and defeated the Clippers 58-36 and lost to the Raiders 52-27.RESULTS:CLEAR CREEK AMANA: https://www.trackwrestling.

Viking basketball loses to Raiders 68-34VINTON – The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking varsity basketball team took the Williamsburg Raiders in Garrison Fieldhouse on Jan. 4 and the Raiders earned a 68-34 win over the Vikings.  The Raiders (8-1, 4-0 WaMaC West) pushed the Vikings to 2-7 (1-2 WaMaC West) with the win. The Vikings will travel the Independence to take on the Independence Mustangs.

It was standing room only as the Stormin’ Viking swim team was back in action Tuesday evening battling both sickness and the Decorah Vikings in a home dual at the Braille School pool.  With a couple of late scratches due to illness and a revamped line-up the swimmers battled hard but fell to Decorah 51-42 in a tightly contested meet. The evening started out on a positive note with Vinton-Shellsburg winning the 160 yard Medley Relay The team of Bradyn Schlief, Carter Kirtz, Ian Allsup and Logan Zearley edged Decorah in an exciting race while setting a new school pool record time of 1:21.

Vikette basketball loses to Raiders 42-41WILLIAMSBURG – The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette varsity basketball team traveled to Williamsburg High School in Williamsburg to take on the Williamsburg Raiders and the Raiders earned a 42-41 victory over the Vikettes on Jan. 4.Junior Alyssa Griffith led the Vikette scoring attack with 11 points with Abby Davis adding seven, Kalie Burke adding six, Sophia Kreutner and Ashlie Meyer adding five apiece and Brylee Bruce adding two.
