As of Friday, February 11, IAwrestle released the following rankings for high school boys wrestling. In the 106# class weight, Freshman Jace Hedeman of Union, in LaPorte City placed 1st.113# in 10th place, Brayden Bohnsack,a Freshman at Union, LaPorte City.At 126#, Jaiden Moore of Benton Community, a Senior placed 1st.132# and 9th place,  Caleb Olson a Sophomore at Union, LaPorte City Weighing in at 145# Cooper Sanders brought in a 1st place win for Vinton-Shellsburg as a Junior.

Vikette basketball defeats Huskies in Class 3A Region 4 Quarterfinal 62-25VINTON – The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette varsity basketball team (14-8) took on the Oelwein Huskies (2-20) in Garrison Fieldhouse on Feb. 12 and earned a 62-25 win in quarterfinal action over the Huskies.Alyssa Griffith led the Vikettes with 17 points, Julia Johnson and Sophia Kreutner added 10 points each, Ashlie Meyer added eight, Abby Davis added six, Kalie Burke and Peytin Clemensen had four each and Addy Phippen scored three.

Viking wrestling qualifies six wrestlers for StateMAQUOKETA  – The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking varsity team traveled to Maquoketa High School for the Class 2A District Wrestling Tournament on Feb. 12, and a program record six Viking wrestlers earned championship or runner-up finishes.113: A. Vikette basketball defeats Raiders 56-52VINTON - The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette varsity basketball team (13-8, 7-5 WaMaC West) took on the Williamsburg Raiders (12-9, 7-5 (WaMaC West) and earned a 56-52 win over the Raiders.Julia Johnson led te Vikettes with 16 points, Alyssa Griffith added 14 points, and Ashlie Meyer added 13 points.

Next weekend will bring one more swim meet, as for the third year in a row, the Stormin’ Vikings are on to State.  Swimming in a highly competitive district at Linn-Mar, the team managed to qualify one relay and three individual events.  The 200 Medley Relay of Bradyn Schlief, Carter Kirtz, Ian Allsup, and Logan Zearley qualified for state with a season best time of 1:42.

Vikette basketball loses to Bobcats 52-45VAN HORNE – The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette varsity basketball team took to Benton Community High School in Van Horne to take on the Benton Bobcats and the Bobcats earned 52-45 win over the Vikettes.Alyssa Griffith and Ashlie Meyer each led the Vikettes scoring 12 points, Abby Davis scored eight, Sophia Kreutner scored five and Brylee Bruce and Kalie Burke scored four each.

Viking basketball defeats Bobcats 52-50VINTON – The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking varsity basketball (3-15) took on the Benton Community Bobcats (5-14) in Garrison Fieldhouse and earned a 52-50 victory over the Bobcats.Gunnar Moen and Kaden Kingsbury each led the Vikings with 14 points, Benett Rickels scored eight.

MANCHESTER – The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking varsity wrestling team traveled to West Delaware High School and Seedorff Gymnasium for the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Sectional Wrestling Tournament and advanced seven wrestlers to the District Tournament in Maquoketa, which is the most wrestlers to advance to the District Tournament since Don Holmes was the Viking wrestling coach in 1971-72.
