Hello, Iowa House District 84 from the State Capitol!
This last week completed week 10 in session at the Capitol, which was also the end of the second funnel week. We have started to slow down in passing bills in the House, and now await what the Senate sends across the Rotunda to the House for consideration.Back in approximately 2019, the legislature passed a bill which was signed into law that allows the use of Cannabidiol oil (CBD) which can be used for treating chronic pain, mental health disorders, depression, anxiety, and other issues.

Week in Wrap
Our second legislative cutoff has come to a close, indicating another hectic week as we
concentrated on advancing House bills in the Iowa Senate. Currently, policy bills must have
passed through a committee in the opposing chamber to be eligible for consideration for the
remainder of the legislative session. This procedure ensures our attention remains on crucial
priorities and bills that garner adequate support to remain viable at this stage of the session,
hopefully aiding in ending the session on schedule this year.
Budget Statement Mailing
Property owners in Iowa will soon receive a new mailing which will contain information about the proposed property
tax rates for the next fiscal year. Iowa Code 24.2A requires that a budget statement be mailed to property owners after
March 20 of each year. The budget statement will include information regarding school, county, and city proposed tax
rates as well as information about scheduled public hearings regarding the proposed tax rates.
Iowa House approves bill to require reports on school staff ‘grooming behavior’
By ROBIN OPSAHL
School districts would be required to report to a state board if they take disciplinary action against licensed employees for “grooming” or abusing a student under a bill passed by the Iowa House Monday.Lawmakers approved House File 2487 unanimously. If a licensed school employee is engaged in “grooming behavior” — defined as attempting to “seduce, solicit, lure, or entice a student” to participate in a sexual act, or to engage in unlawful sexual conduct, school districts must report this information to the state Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE).
