As the primary fiber installation crews wind-up their work, staff from Patriot Communications is busy installing internet services to homes. iVinton’s internet service is completely managed by the local utility, and internet customers are being connected as quickly as Patriot can do the work.The project includes more than 34 miles of mainline fiber, and 42.
Notice of Public Hearing: National Register Nomination
The Preston Station Historic District also known as G.W. Preston’s Filling Station; George Preston’s Service Station; and Preston’s Corner located at the corner of 4th Avenue and 13th Street in Belle Plaine, Iowa has been nominated to the National Register of Historic Places.The Benton County Historic Preservation Commission will hold a public hearing on this nomination on June 4, 2020 at 7:00pm at the Benton County Service Center located at 811 D Ave.

6 Candidates Nominated for 4 seats: ISU Extension & Outreach Benton Co. Council
Six Candidates Nominated for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Benton County Council to fill Four Council Seats6 Benton County residents have been nominated for four-year terms on the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Extension Council by the council’s nominating committee. Their names will appear on the Nov. 3rd general election ballot.
PUBLIC INPUT NEEDED FOR BENTON COUNTY HAZARD MITIGATION PLANNING
Public input is sought for revision of the 2016 Benton County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (MJHMP) which the county is beginning the process of updating. The [upd] must be completed and submitted to FEMA by February 1, 2021. The purpose of a Hazard Mitigation Plan is to identify what natural and manmade disasters a community is vulnerable to and then to also identify steps that may be taken to lessen the impact of such events upon the citizens, their property and community resources.

Gov. Reynolds signs new proclamation continuing the Emergency Declaration
Below is the complete declaration:Today, Governor Reynolds signed a new proclamation continuing the Public Health Disaster Emergency until June 25, 2020. As previously announced, the proclamation permits bars, wineries, breweries, distilleries, and social and fraternal clubs may reopen on May 28 with the same public health measures as restaurants in place.
Benton County Board of Supervisor Minutes 5/19/20
May 19, 2020 The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Primmer, Bierschenk and Seeman were present. Primmer called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. Members of the public were provided the zoom access capability to join in during open session and watch live at the county’s YouTube channel.

Additional reopenings throughout the state will start this week and next week after a new proclamation from Governor Reynolds. Starting May 22, movie theaters, zoos, aquariums and museums will be allowed to reopen, again as long as they can accommodate reasonable public health measures. Pools will only be allowed to reopen for lap swimming and swimming lessons.
