PRIMARY ELECTION UPDATE WITH COVID-19 UPDATE
Benton County is working closely with the Secretary of State’s office with the upcoming Primary Election and
the COVID-19 pandemic. Here is a list of updated information from the Secretary of State’s office regarding
voting in the Primary Election:
1. The Primary Election will NOT be postponed or canceled.
2. We will be combining polling places for Election Day.

March 20, 2020The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Primmer, Bierschenk and Seeman were present. Supervisor Primmer called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. Unless otherwise noted, all actions were approved unanimously. The department heads were given the zoom call information for Covid 19 update.Auditor Rippel discussed the vacancy in the Treasurer’s office effective March 31, 2020 and reviewed Iowa Code Chapter 69 and the options to proceed in filling the vacancy of an elected official.

School Offers Free Meals beginning Monday, March 23, 2020
The Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District remains committed to doing all we can to meet the needs of our students and their families during this mandatory closure of schools. One way we can do that is to offer FREE meals for children up to age 18.We will follow best practices for food distribution as outlined by the CDC. All locations will be grab-and-go.

Coronavirus Update: FDA Alerts Consumers About Fraudulent Covid-19 test kits
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is actively and aggressively monitoring the market for any firms marketing products with fraudulent coronavirus (COVID-19) diagnostic, prevention and treatment claims as part of our ongoing efforts to protect public health during this pandemic. As a result of these activities, the agency is beginning to see unauthorized fraudulent test kits that are being marketed to test for COVID-19 in the home.

An arrest or criminal charge is merely an accusation and the Defendant is presumed innocent, unless proven guilty. Intrastate Warrants are issued by Law Enforcement Agencies for crimes happening in their jurisdictions.
Additional COVID-19 cases in Iowa, Reynolds to hold press conference today
The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) has been notified of 15 additional positive cases of Iowans with COVID-19, for a total of 105 positive cases. There have been a total of 2,043 negative tests to date, which includes testing reported by the State Hygienic Lab and other labs. According to IDPH, the locations and age ranges of the 15 individuals include:Allamakee County, 1 adult (18-40 years)Dubuque County, 1 adult (18-40 years), 1 older adult (61-80 years)Hancock County, 2 older adults (61-80 years)Johnson County, 1 middle-aged adult (41-60 years), 2 older adults (61-80 years)Linn County, 1 adult (18-40 years), 1 middle-aged adult (41-60 years)Muscatine County, 1 middle-aged adult (41-60 years)Polk County, 1 adult (18-40 years), 1 middle-aged adult (41-60 years)Wapello County, 1 older adult (61-80 years)Woodbury County, 1 middle-aged adult (41-60 years)A status report of monitoring and testing of COVID19 in Iowa is provided by IDPH and can be found here.
