Benton County Democrats to meet February 18

The Benton County Democratic Central Committee will meet on February 18, 2020, at 7 PM at La Reyna Restaurant in Vinton.

This last week started with the very important nation-wide process of Iowa leading the nation in the selection of our president beginning on January 20, 2021. I attended the Atkins caucus, which had a very nice gathering for the Republican ticket, with President Trump being our unanimous choice. Statewide, Republicans smashed the previous caucus record turnout of a Republican incumbent by four times, which was in 2004 for President George W.

Senate Candidates Dawn Driscoll and Ivy Schuster attend Blueprint for Winning

Democrat Ivy Schuster and Republican Dawn Driscoll, both candidates for Iowa Senate District 38, attended a three-day training for female candidates and campaign managers in Johnston January 23-25. The Blueprint for Winning Academy was 50-50 in 2020’s first training program, formed to provide campaign training specifically tailored for women. Former state senators Jean Lloyd-Jones (D–Iowa City) and Maggie Tinsman (R–Bettendorf) founded 50-50 in 2020 with the aim of recruiting, training, and mentoring women to run for office.

Benton County Releases Audit Report

Eide Bailly LLP today released an audit report on the Benton County, Iowa for the year ended  June 30, 2019.  Revenues for the County for the year ended June 30, 2019, totaled $22,594,417, a 6.

Proposed waterfowl rules available for public comment

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is accepting comments on proposed waterfowl and coot hunting seasons and bag limits, which includes 2021-22 season dates, and the proposed restructuring of the hunting zones and seasons for 2021-2025.A copy of the proposal is available online at https://www.iowadnr.gov/Hunting/Migratory-Game-Birds by clicking on the Chapter 91, Waterfowl and Coot Hunting Seasons link.

Vinton-Shellsburg Announces Finalists for Superintendent Interviews

The Vinton-Shellsburg Board of Education is pleased to announce that they have selected three candidates to interview for their superintendent vacancy. The first candidate, who will interview on Thursday, February 6th is:Mr. James Murray, Vinton, IAInterviews will be conducted the 6th, 10th and 11th of February.  Numerous stakeholder groups will have the opportunity to meet the final candidates and submit input to the board about each of them.

Democrats to release majority of votes at 4:00 p.m.

IDP Communications Director Mandy McClure released the following statement on reporting the 2020 Caucus results: "Today we informed campaigns that we will be releasing the majority of caucus results at 4p.m. CST. Moving forward — just like we would would have on caucus night — we will continue to release results as we are able to. We are also executing our plans and procedures to gather the paper documents and chasing any additional precincts to report results as we normally would on caucus night.

Benton County Board of Supervisor Minutes 1/27/20

January 27, 2020The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in special session at the Emergency Management Agency Office in the Benton County Law Enforcement Center. Supervisor Primmer called the meeting to order at 6:30 P.M. Supervisors Bierschenk and Seeman were also present. Unless otherwise noted, all actions were approved unanimously.The purpose of the meeting was to be present during the public hearing on the FY21 Emergency Management Agency budget.
