January 13, 2015 The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Frese, Hertle and Wiley present.  The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. Moved by Wiley, seconded by Hertle, to approve the minutes of January 6, 2015.  All members voting aye thereon.  Motion carried. Moved by Wiley, seconded by Hertle, to approve checks numbered 213043 through 213267, payroll checks numbered 138044 through 138058, and ACH deposits numbered 229 through 23040, for payment with the exception of check to Benton County Agricultural.

Dear Friends and Neighbors, Our first week is always chaotic.  Besides the several trips of moving your stuff down to Des Moines, you have the Governor’s Condition of the State address and the Chief Justice of the Iowa Supreme Court’s Condition of the Judiciary, the swearing in, the picking of your seats, the first introductory committee meetings, the new legislators, the new secretaries (mine is Victoria), and then you have to learn to be ‘scatter brained’ all over again.

Benton County will begin the process of revising its Multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan with kick-off meetings at the following locations: Tuesday, January 27 at the Benton County EOC (East Door of Sheriff’s Office) Wednesday, January 28 at the Atkins Community Center/City Hall Tuesday, February 3 at the Van Horne Community Center/City Hall Thursday, February 5 at the Belle Plaine Community Center All meetings begin at 7:00 pm.

January 6, 2015  The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular adjourned session with Supervisors Frese, Hertle, and Wiley present.  The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m.  Moved by Hertle, seconded by Wiley, to set Tuesday February 3, 2015, at 9:15 a.m., as the time and date for a land use hearing on a land use change requested by Michael and Melinda Fall on a parcel located in the SW1/4 NE1/4 Sec 23-85-9.

Pettengill (R-Mt. Auburn) joined other Iowa legislators taking the oath of office in the Iowa House chamber as the 86th General Assembly kicked off Monday at the Capitol.     During the session, Pettengill can be reached at dawn.pettengill@legis.iowa.gov or through the House switchboard at (515) 281-3221. The swearing in ceremony of all 100 state representatives begins a week full of ceremonies, including the condition of the state address by the governor, and the condition of the judiciary address by the Iowa Supreme Court chief justice.

The next regular meeting of the Benton Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioners will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at the District Office, located at 1705 West D Street, Vinton, IA.  The meeting will begin at 8:00 a.m.    Agenda items include:  approval of minutes, approval of treasurer’s report and payment of bills, approval of conservation plans, review of activities and bills for the Benton/Tama Nutrient Reduction Strategy Watershed Project, discussion of the District’s Annual Plan, an update on NRCS activities, state cost share business, correspondence, and other routine business.
