Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day

Although we call it Veterans Day now, for the first 28 years of celebrating Nov. 11, Americans called it Armistice Day, a commemoration of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Great War (Later called World War 1) ended.

Crash on Highway 30 takes life of Benton County resident

A semi vs. car crash took the life of an area resident on Friday evening. A reported vehicle-semi collision happened at about 10:30 p.m. on Highway 30 east of Tama which resulted in the roadway being closed.

It's always fun to see the town begin to get ready for Christmas, (I know we haven't had Thanksgiving yet) and part of that is the annual hanging the greenery Area Vinton-Shellsburg students decorated local businesses greenery on Saturday, preparing the city for its first Christmas events of the season.
