The Vinton-Shellsburg Marching Band Regiment wrapped up its 2018 season with its best performance of the year, says director Nick Waymire. The band came home from the Waukee Invitational with the 3rd place trophy; the flag corps earned the second-highest score from the panel of judges.

The Kiwanis Club of Vinton, met on Tuesday at LaReyna where they had their weekly meeting. At this meeting they installed their new president Tom Husnik.

  Nine Union High School vocalists were selected to participate in the UNI Vocal Arts Festival on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 in Cedar Falls.  Students from around the state were brought together to practice and perform in a massed choir of approximately 350 students.

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is designed to assist low income families meet the cost of home heating. Applications are accepted on a first come/first served basis at your local community action agency from November 1 through April 30 (October 1 for households with elderly/disabled member 16 and older, disconnects or no propane can apply for assistance now), Monday through Friday, see times listed at the local community action office below.

The Franklin Mountains overlook Vinton, Texas and its new playground. The residents of Vinton plan to spend a few nights this summer watching movies at the park, not far from the brand new playground.

Raegan Junge visits her new friend, Lorelei, a Marshalltown child who suffers from sensory disorders. Raegan’s visit helped calm the girl after the tornado disrupted her family’s life and give her something to be happy about, says her mom.

A year ago, on their anniversary, Heidi and Lance Lillibridge went for a motorcycle ride, and came back realizing that life was about to change. Something was wrong; when it was time to make turns on the two-wheeler, Heidi realized her body was leaning a second or so after Lance’s.

Two familiar Vinton icons, the Benton County Courthouse bell tower, and the lights of downtown Vinton, now adorn the Kiwanis Park water tower. The project continues, as painters from the Georgia company continue working on the tower.
