Vikette golfers recognized for academic successes

By Janet Woodhouse, Coach Our 2017 girls golf team had an exceptional year on the links; they achieved a 46-8 overall record and the varsity team qualified for State. These girls' golf team members were also achievers in the classroom. Each year the Iowa Girls' High School Athletic Union presents an award for excellence in academic achievement.

2018 Officers for Center Point Historical Society

The Center Point Historical Society welcomed more than 100 guests at the Depot Museum as part of Main St. Holiday Sunday evening Dec. 11. Guests rode the city hayride from festivities on Main Street and at the Library. Driver, Historical Society member Collin Aarhus, took them past the Strait Log Cabin decked out with a lighted Christmas tree, before dropping them off next door at the Depot Museum for history, hot cider and old Christmas music on the player piano.

Legion Post 57 celebrates $20K USAA Sweepstakes prize

Speakers discussed the history of Post 57 and the impact of the $20,000 prize. SAL Detachment of Iowa Commander Gary Bonesteel, American Legion National Commander Denise Rohan and ALR Iowa Chapter 166 President Kaye Bonesteel. They were among many veterans leaders celebrating with Post 57. American Legion National Commander Denise Rohan listens as USAA's Steve Cochran speaks about the $20,000 prize and the importance of veterans groups.

Elwick leads Stormin' Vikings at Williamsburg

By Rob Levis, Coach Tuesday night the Vinton Shellsburg / CPU swim team traveled to Williamsburg to face the host Raiders and the Oskaloosa Indians, coming away with a split on the evening. The Stormin' Vikings took down Williamsburg 102-60 while falling in a close contest with Oskee 87-75. The Stormin' Vikes, on the back of strong performance in the middle of the meet clung to a 59-58 lead over Oskee at the second and final break.

Play Vinton Project Update: Tilford Kids Speak on Playground Ideas!

By Brad Barker The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department recently invited Tilford Elementary students to provide thoughts on what their dream playground would include. We figure kids know play best since they, course, are the primary consumers! They participated in a brainstorming session with their classmates and teachers and were instructed that no idea was too big or too small.
