I think on each September 11, since 2001, I have taken time to relive the moment when I first heard that a plane hit one of the towers in New York. As I write this a plane is flying overhead and I involuntarily cringe.

The project “Electric Outlets for Fans in the Horse Barn” is one of 15 finalists in Grinnell Mutual’s Fairground Facelift initiative. With votes from Facebook fans, Benton County Fair could receive a grant of up to $3,000 to help bring this fairground improvement project to life.

Homecoming 2018 is under way for Vinton-Shellsburg. Seniors began the week by painting banners which will be hung in area business windows. (Other students will paint windows Monday after school.

ON 09-07-2018, THE VINTON POLICE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO A REQUEST FOR A WELFARE CHECK AT 705 C AVE IN VINTON IA. THE REPORTING PARTY INDICATED THAT THEY BELIEVED LYLE ARTHUR FOWLER JR, AGE 43, OF 705 C AVE, WAS IN NEED OF ASSISTANCE.

Vinton Police Respond to Disturbance at C Ave. and 8th St.

Police are on the scene of a disturbance at the corner of C Avenue and north of 8th St. Witnesses report fighting and multiple shots fired. The Vinton Police Department and the Benton County Sheriff's department are on the scene now.
