Many area residents report fraudulent charges; police offer tips for reporting
The Vinton Police Department has been inundated with reports from local residents this week regarding fraudulent charges and account activity that has been appearing on their bank or credit card statements, or brought to their attention by their local banking institution.
Crimes of this type must be investigated, and potentially prosecuted, in the jurisdiction where the fraudulent charges were incurred, not reported to the Vinton Police Department merely because the banking institution, or the victim are located in Vinton.
Shellsburg assembly/flash mob today; public invited
Shellsburg Elementary is holding a big assembly today about safety. All classes will be presenting and the 3rd-5th graders will do their flashmob at the end.
The assembly starts at 2:00 and the community is welcome to come. If anyone is in the area they should stop by!

Parking reminder for VSHS students

I wanted to let you know that all Freshman and Sophomore students received a Canvas message from me today reminding them of the parking rules at the high school. Simply put, the first four rows are reserved for handicapped, faculty, parents and visitors. Effective immediately, these rules will be enforced and any violators will be assigned to In-school Suspension.
Trial reset for September in triple-vehicular homicide case
The trial for Raul Salazar, Jr., 39, on three counts of vehicular homicide due to driving while intoxicated, has been delayed until Sept. 29.
Court records indicate that Salazar’s pickup was traveling at 80 miles per hour or more on the gravel of 16th Avenue southeast of Keystone when he crossed Highway 30 and his truck hit collided with a sedan, breaking the car in half, on the evening of Aug.
