Polly Jane Sorensen, 66, of Ravenwood Specialty Care, died Monday, Aug. 8 at Unity Point Hospice, Waterloo.She was born Oct. 19, 1955 in Waterloo, daughter of Alvin E. and Nancy Higley Sorensen, Jr. Polly graduated from River Hills School, Cedar Falls.Polly worked at Parkview Nursing Home and volunteered at Black Hawk Center for Independent Living.She loved to color, enjoyed visiting with people and will be remembered for making friends easily.

Celebration of Life: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at American Legion Post 297, 902 Main St., Center Point. Burial will take place at a later date at Cherry Mound Cemetery near Harpers Ferry, Iowa.

Carmen Espinoza SindtOctober 21, 1950 – July 28,2022Carmen’s story began in 1950 in Battle Creek, Michigan where she was born to Julio and Katherine Espinoza.Soon after, her family moved to their new hometown of Waukegan, Illinois, where she grew up and graduated from Waukegan High School with the Class of 1968.Immediately after high school, she went to work as a civilian at the Fort Sheridan Army base near Chicago, where she met her future husband, Captain Dale H.

A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Urbana. Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Urbana.
Janet Joy (Kern) Wagner
Janet is now in Heaven making what Congressman John Lewis called "good trouble." Janet spent her life advocating for the less fortunate, the poor, and especially the mentally handicapped. When her youngest daughter, Brook, was born in 1962, she and other parents began to work and dedicate their lives to help those with Down Syndrome and other medical conditions who were shunned from society and shipped to state institutions.

Kirk Beason
Kirk Beason, 54, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 27, 2022 at his home in rural Vinton. Per Kirk’s wishes there will be no services. Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is assisting the family. Kirk was born January 2, 1968, in Cedar Rapids, the son of John Beason and Connie Lerch. Kirk married Deb (Harvey) Beason. Kirk worked for the United States Navy for 20 years.
