Kathy (Braun) Werning, age 96, died Thursday, July 28, 2022 at the Vinton Lutheran Home. Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, August 5, 2022 at St. John Cemetery rural Newhall with Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. For those of you who know Kathy, you have probably heard many stories and reflections about Central Lutheran School.
David Albert “Hermy” Herman
David Albert “Hermy” Herman, age 75, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 1, 2022 at his home in Atkins. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 5, 2022 at St. John the XXIII Catholic Church in Fairfax with Rev. Fr. Richmond Dzekoe as Celebrant. Interment will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA at a later date.
Larry Gene Raymond
Larry Gene Raymond, 69, formerly of Conrad, died Sunday, July 31, 2022 at ProMedica in Cedar Rapids following a courageous battle with cancer.Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home, Vinton. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial with military rites will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.

Louis James Hurt III, passed peacefully in his sleep with his wife Charlene by his side on Saturday, July 23, 2022.Louie’s Celebration of Life will be Saturday, July 30, 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, Belle Plaine, Iowa. A social time will follow, please join us for coffee and cookies – Louie’s favorite treat. There will be a private family burial service following the social time.
Lynn Franklin “Butch” Pickering
Lynn Franklin “Butch” Pickering, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 29, 2022 at the Gardens of Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, with Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. Interment will be held at St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Tuesday, also at the church.
Dennis Eldon (Saus) Von Ahsen
Dennis Eldon Von Ahsen, 69, passed away peacefully on November 24th, at the VA Hospital of heart failure after a courageous battle with cancer, with his family by his side. A private funeral service was held at St. John Lutheran Church, Newhall with military honors to follow at the church cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held from 5 to 9 p.
Clyde Albert Leimberer
Devoted husband, beloved father, and brother in Christ, Clyde Albert Leimberer, age 78, died suddenly on Sunday April 24th, 2022 in his home in Burnsville, MN.Born on August 4th, 1943, to Thelma (Walter) and Milo Leimberer, Clyde spent his youth tending to the family farm just outside of Hartwick, Iowa. Though farming stayed in his bones throughout his life, and showed itself in boundless gardens and a love for tractors, his eyes turned to the ministry at a young age.
Earlene C. (Traner) Pint
Earlene C. (Traner) Pint of Independence passed away peacefully on July 26, 2022, in Iowa City of natural causes. She was born on December 29, 1944, the daughter of Earl Traner and Evelyn (Butler) Traner-Buckingham. She was a 1963 graduate of Jefferson High School in Independence. Earlene was united in marriage to the love of her life, Richard J. Pint on June 22, 1963, in Independence.
Lorraine Ann Messer (Grace)
Lorraine Ann Messer (Grace) 59 of Oskaloosa, Iowa died late April 2022 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.Lorraine was born July 2, 1962, to parents Leonard and Carol Messer in Clinton, Iowa. Her family lived in Chadwick, Illinois where her father was superintendent of schools. They moved to Alburnett, Iowa and then to Shellsburg, Iowa where Lorraine attended grade school.
Loyal “Butch” Hoover
Loyal “Butch” Hoover, 75, died at his residence Wednesday, July 27, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.Per Butch’s request, there will be no services. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is assisting the family.Butch was born September 27, 1946 at Hood River, OR, the son of George and Alice (Davis) Hoover. In 1970, Butch married Debra Brewer.
