Deborah A. Peters

Deborah A. Peters, age 62, of Belle Plaine passed away Sunday, November 14, 2021, at Belle Plaine Specialty Care Center after a short courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A Celebration of Life Service and Inurnment will be held in the spring of 2022 at the Marengo Cemetery.

Charles R. “Chuck” Boyles

Charles R. “Chuck” Boyles, 77, died Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton..  A visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Loralyn Jean Riley

Loralyn Jean Riley passed away very early on November 11, 2021 at The Gardens in Cedar Rapids, IA. She was married to Wayne Riley for 68 years.She was born on a ranch near Oelrichs, South Dakota on September 25, 1933. She was the daughter of Henry and Dora (Peterson) Wilson. She graduated from Chadron Preparatory School at the Chadron State Teacher’s College in Chadron, Nebraska.

Edward Dean “E.D.” Dixon

Edward Dean “E.D.” Dixon, 92, of Vinton, Iowa, and former resident of Bloomfield, Iowa passed away on November 2, 2021, at his home in Vinton. He was born on June 18, 1929, in Davis County, Iowa to Lowell and Wilma B. McMains Dixon. He spent most of his childhood in Davis County and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1947. After working for John Deere in Waterloo for a year, he joined the Air Force and was stationed in England during the Korean War.

Philip Joseph Smith

Philip Joseph Smith, 63, died Monday, November 8, 2021, at his home in Van Horne.Private family graveside services will be held at the Keystone Cemetery.Philip was born July 31, 1958 in Cedar Rapids, to Edward R. and Doris (DeBurn) Smith. He lived in Colorado and Arizona for several years before returning to Iowa.  He worked as a mechanic, cable installer and master printer, for the majority of his life.

Hazel M. Whitson

Hazel M. Whitson, 97, died peacefully at her home, Wednesday, November 10, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 15, 2021 at Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home in Vinton. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Burial will be in Bear Creek Cemetery, Vinton.

Joan Helen (Popelka) Croft

Joan Helen (Popelka) Croft, 88, of Belle Plaine, IA passed away peacefully, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, IA November 10, 2021 with her children by her side.Joan was born April 20, 1933 to Joseph and Helen (Lahodny) Popelka in rural Vining, IA. She attended Chelsea school through 8th grade when her family moved to Belle Plaine. Joan graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1950.

Neville R. Barnard

Neville R. Barnard, 83, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at Belle Plaine Specialty Care, Belle Plaine, IA. Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Neville was born November 10, 1938, in Callaway, NE, the son of Ray and Mary Neva (Vollenweider) Barnard. He attended school in Callaway and Wood River, NE, earning his GED.

Lori Lynn Stovers Jemison

Lori Lynn Stovers Jemison, 51, died October 27, 2021 in Abilene, TX.Lori was born February 25, 1970 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA. She graduated from Belle Plaine High School and attended Kirkwood Community College. She was married to Tim Wheeler and together they had three boys, Michael, Scott and Brent. They later divorced and she married Aron Jemison and they had three fur babies.

Richard "Dick" LeRoy Abernathey

Richard "Dick" LeRoy Abernathey, 91, passed away Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, at Belle Plaine Specialty Care. A graveside service will take place at Bear Creek Cemetery in Vinton, Iowa, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13.Dick was born May 31, 1930, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Ross and Rea Opel (Whitening) Abernathey.
