Daniel “Dan” W. Johnson, 55, of Belle Plaine, Iowa passed away Monday, November 15, 2021 following his battle with cancer.Dan was born August 11, 1966 to Roxy and Linda (McCaughey) Johnson in Anamosa, IA. He graduated from Lincoln Community High School, Stanwood, IA in 1984. From the time Dan graduated high school he was involved in Fire and EMS services.

Misty Kay Henle

Misty Kay Henle, 53, of Coralville, IA passed away November 15, 2021.Misty was born March 6, 1968 to Meryl and Marianne (Stephan) Hartung in Mason City, IA. Traveling with her family, they ended up in Mount Vernon where she graduated high school. In school she enjoyed marching band, playing the baritone saxophone. Following school, Misty spent a short time in Boston as a nanny.

Drusilla “Dru” Ann Rector

Ruth Hanson, 96, of Porter, TX, formerly of Vinton, died November 10, 2021.A memorial visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a prayer service at 11:00 a.m Friday, November 19, 2021 at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vinton.Ruth Margaret Hanson was born June 19, 1925 in Vinton, IA, the daughter of Erik Henning and Hilda Svenson Skoog.

Shirley J. Miller

Shirley Jean Miller, 91, of Luzerne, IA passed away November 14, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, IA.Shirley was born December 13, 1929 to Harold and Norma (Cronbaugh) Slaymaker at home. She enjoyed playing basketball for Victor High School and graduated in 1948. Shirley continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa, earning her teaching certificate.

Beverly Bieber

Beverly Bieber, 77, of Cedar Rapids, IA passed away November 12, 2021 at Colonial Manor, Amana, IA.Beverly was born January 16, 1944 to Melbert and Bernice (Newton) Bieber on the East Coast. Moving with her family at a young age, she grew up in Vinton, IA and graduated from Vinton High School. Beverly continued her education at the University of Dubuque, earning her Bachelor of Sciences degree.

Deanna Jo (Williams) Kahler

 Shirley Ann Doud, 85, of Vinton and formerly of Garrison, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021 at Keystone Nursing Care Center following an extended illness.A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E 6th Street) in Vinton.Shirley was born on April 16, 1936, in Independence, IA to Orville and Grace (Baker) Pelley.

Joe Don Freed, 54, died Saturday, November 13, 2021, at his home in Vinton, following a courageous battle with cancer.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, November 18, 2021 at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton.  A visitation will be from 11:00 AM  until service time on Thursday, at the funeral home.  Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery.

Charles John Smart

Charles John Smart, 37, died Saturday, November 13, 2021, following an automobile accident.Charles was born December 27, 1983, Joplin, Missouri, to Charles Lee Smart and Sandra Benson. Charles worked as a welder at Peak Construction in North Liberty. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, being outdoors and spending time with his family. Charles also had a passion for older cars.
