Elmer Eldon Stein
Elmer Stein, of Dysart, passed away September 5, 2021 at the Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab Center in Vinton, Iowa, after a lengthy illness.Elmer was born October 7, 1926 to Eldo & Hilda (Jacobs) Stein on their farm near Dysart, Iowa. He attended Country School and graduated from Dysart High School in 1944. He was a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War. Wayne Russell McLaughlin Sr.
Wayne Russell McLaughlin Sr., 80, of Belle Plaine died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, at West Ridge Care Center following a short illness. Services: 1 p.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home by Chaplain Brian Reeves. Friends may visit with the family on Friday after 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Bryce Joseph Brecht, age 59, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Unity Point St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a tragic heavy machinery accident. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 9th, 2021, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Norway from 3:00 until 7:00 PM. Grimes, 89, died peacefully Friday, September 3, 2021, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton of natural causes.Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2021, at the First Christian Church in Vinton with Rev. Richard Jumper officiating. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday, September 10 at the First Christian Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Darin Lee Goodell
After a long struggle with mental illness, Darin Lee Goodell, 54, of Urbana took his own life, Monday, August 30, 2021. Darin was born March 23, 1967 in Vinton to Leon and Karen (Schlotterbeck) Goodell. He grew up in Urbana and graduated from Urbana Consolidated High School in 1985. Lehigh Acres, FL - Douglas E Johnston age 51 passed away unexpectedly due to complications of COVID19 on August 28, 2021 with his family by his side at Lee Memorial Hospital. Douglas was born on September 17, 1969 to his parents, Richard E. and Marcia R. Johnston (Dennis) at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Sam Weich, 56, of La Porte City, died Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of cancer. He was born March 31, 1965, in Waterloo the son of Floyd "Buss" and Mary "Dottie" Davis Weich. He was a 1983 graduate of La Porte City High School.Sam married Sharyl Groves on July 12, 1991, in Waterloo.He worked for the City of La Porte City for 40 years, where he most recently served as Public Works Director, retiring in 2020. Kozik, 87, of Belle Plaine, IA passed away August 30, 2021 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids.Frances was born March 30, 1934 to J.V. and Anna (Svoboda) Breja on the Breja family farm near Elberon, IA. She graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1953. Following school, Fran worked for Citizens State Bank. On May 25, 1954, she married Donald Kozik at St. Harold "Gene" Scadden Sr.
Harold "Gene" Scadden Sr., 80, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Aug. 29, 2021, at his home. Graveside services with full military honors and visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 2600 Muscatine Ave., Iowa City, Iowa.
