Jeanette Schmitz, 99, of Urbana, passed away peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at her rural Urbana home.Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Urbana. Visitation will also be held at the church on Tuesday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Urbana.
Kathy Jo (Krezek) Larson, age 69, passed away early Friday, February 4, 2022 at the Keystone Nursing Care Center. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials can be sent to Safe Haven of Iowa County. Kathy was born on March 9, 1952 in Waterloo, the daughter of Edward and Ellen (Havran) Krezek. She graduated from North Tama High School.

She attended Westerville High School, Westerville, Ohio. Following school, she worked as a nanny until she married Richard Stratton on Aug.

Robert C. “Bob” Beyer of Vinton formerly of Garrison was a caring Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and friend who suddenly passed at the age of 90 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Bob was born October 25th, 1931, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids to Robert B. and Elton Shaw Beyer. On January 19th, 1952, he was united in marriage to Alice “Bonnie” Dake Beyer at the Methodist Church in Vinton.

Dean Edward Schminke, 74, father, grandfather and husband of 49 ½ years, passed away with family by his side on February 6, 2022.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 11, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Vinton. Visitation will also be held at the church on Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Full military rites will follow the funeral service with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.

Berniece May Sokol, 84, of Belle Plaine, IA passed away February 4, 2022 at her home. Berniece was born August 16, 1937 to Richard and Laura Byers in Topeka, KS. Upon graduation from Lane High School, Lane, KS. Berniece worked for the state in Topeka, Kansas. On August 4, 1956 Berniece married Lester Sokol and later divorced. They were blessed with 3 children.
Robert ('Bob') E. Rickels died at home on Jan. 23, 2022, just a few months shy of the grand age of 99, constantly surrounded by devoted family. His daughter, Kris, was deeply honored to care for him at home - with the unflagging support and partnership of her husband, Scott - in his final years.Teacher, artist, musician, traveler, outdoorsman, devout Lutheran, unequaled father, husband, and friend, Bob Rickels was a very special, inspiring man.

Mr. Jon William Lash, 79, of Lake City, Fla., formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022, at the Lake City Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Danville, Ill., he was the son of the late Frederick and Willa Myer Lash. Mr. Lash had lived in Jessup, Ga., for many years prior to moving to Lake City in 2001 and retired as an executive in the cable TV industry.
