Mary Ellen Primmer, age 82, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Mercy One Hospital in Waterloo.Private family graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton.Mary Ellen was born October 24, 1938 in Vinton, the daughter of Chauncey and Clara (Stoller) Primmer. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton. Mary Ellen worked as an Assistant Librarian at the Vinton Public Library and operated a bookstore, "Mary's Book Nook" for a number of years.

Daniel Joseph Mensen, 69, of Urbana, Iowa, passed away at his home on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021. Family will greet family and friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. Michael John Van Thournout, 76, of Van Horne, IA passed away September 7, 2021 at Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha.Michael was born April 5, 1945 to August Julian and Florence Catherine (Van Waus) Van Thournout in Belle Plaine, IA. He attended Country School Hartford #8 and graduated from HLV in 1963. Following school, Michael joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Japan and Vietnam. Elmer Eldon Stein
Elmer Stein, of Dysart, passed away September 5, 2021 at the Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab Center in Vinton, Iowa, after a lengthy illness.Elmer was born October 7, 1926 to Eldo & Hilda (Jacobs) Stein on their farm near Dysart, Iowa. He attended Country School and graduated from Dysart High School in 1944. He was a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War. Wayne Russell McLaughlin Sr.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 9th, 2021, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Norway from 3:00 until 7:00 PM. After a long struggle with mental illness, Darin Lee Goodell, 54, of Urbana took his own life, Monday, August 30, 2021. Darin was born March 23, 1967 in Vinton to Leon and Karen (Schlotterbeck) Goodell. He grew up in Urbana and graduated from Urbana Consolidated High School in 1985. Darin worked for Rockwell Collins for 34 years Darin was beloved by his family, many classmates and co-workers. Douglas Eugene Johnston
Lehigh Acres, FL - Douglas E Johnston age 51 passed away unexpectedly due to complications of COVID19 on August 28, 2021 with his family by his side at Lee Memorial Hospital. Douglas was born on September 17, 1969 to his parents, Richard E. and Marcia R. Johnston (Dennis) at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Doug graduated from Vinton High School and took apprenticeship with the Local 125 Plumber and Pipefitters.
