Rod Osborne O’Brien, 52, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024, in Van Horne, IA.The youngest of three siblings, he was born on March 1, 1972, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Daniel and Mary O’Brien. He proudly graduated in 1990 from Benton Community High School and in 1994 from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan, with a Professional Golf Management degree.

Rosemary Ransom Nuki, 83 passed away May 4, 2024, following a courageous battle of cancer, surrounded by family at her home in Salinas, California. Burial will be at a later date, with a celebration of life to be shared with her husband Mas, who preceded her in death in 2021. Rosie was the daughter of Herbert M. and Leona (Nelson) Ransom. She grew up in Van Horne, Iowa, graduating with the class of 1959 at Van Horne High School.

James Edwin Long, 84, died at his home Monday, May 6, 2024, in Vinton, Iowa.Visitation will be Thursday, May 9, 2024 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street), Vinton. Funeral services will be Friday, May 10, 2024 at 10:30 at the funeral home, with Pastor Randy Nash officiating. Lunch will follow at the Vinton American Legion Hall.

Milly was born in Keyston, IA, January 18, 1938 the daughter of John Henry Peters and Mabel (Lanum) Peters. She grew up in Belle Plaine, attending Belle Plaine High School. Following school Milly married Nathan Rupp, to this union five children were born.

Timothy Michael Gaffey was born July 13, 1960, in Illinois, the son of Thomas Francis and Irene (Horwath) Gaffey. The family moved from Libertyville, IL to Holbrook, IA where Tom was raised. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Holbrook where he took First Communion and was Confirmed. He attended Parnell and Williamsburg Schools. Tim worked on the family farm and later at Holden’s Foundation Seeds in Williamsburg for 10 years.
