Berry's Lanes bowlers do well at City Tournament

Doubles award: 3rd place for Byron Christianson and Jakob Becker. On Saturday April, several bowlers from Berry Lanes received awards in the City Bowling Tournament at May City Lanes.  The bowlers had the opportunity to bowl in a 9 pin tournament before that awards that day.  Doubles Division 4: Jakob Becker and Byron Christianson, 3rd Singles Girls Division 4: 3rd Kylee Kichner 26th Anna Becker Singles Boys Division 4: 5th Byron Christianson 10th Jakob Becker Division 4 girls 100 & below  1st Kylee Kirchner 13th Anna Becker Jakob Becker and Byron Christianson received a trophy for 3rd place in the Doubles Division 4 Anna Becker received a trophy for Division 4 All events girls 3rd place scratch Kylee Kichner received a trophy for Division 4 All events 1st place 3rd place in singles, Kylee Kichner received $30.

Vikings card a 144 in triangular victory at Wildcat; also win at Benton

Friday night was a great day for golf as the Vikings hosted Clear Creek-Amana and Center Point-Urbana at Wildcat Golf Course.  The Vikings posted a career best 144 to win the meet, which challenges some of the best scores ever for Vinton-Shellsburg.  Bryce Shaw led the way carding an even par 35 to be the medalist.  Mike DeLong was close to the even par mark shooting a 36 to take home the runner-up medal.

Sophomore Rachel Tandy wins first medal as Vikettes win triangular

Vikettes celebrate with medalist Rachel Tandy; the team is now 15-0. Sophomore Rachel Tandy won her first medalist honor, leading the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes to a triangular win over Benton Community and Don Bosco with a 47. Her sister, senior Lauren Tandy, tied for second with Benton's Kenna German. 4 in the 40s! Vikettes reach goal in quadrangular win

The Vinton-Shellsburg girls golf team has an alliterative goal for each of its meets: 4 in the 40s. That represents four golfers with a score less than 50 and shows consistency among the individual players as well as the team. The Vikettes achieved that goal Thursday in their home quadrangular, winning over Williamsburg, Marion and Clear Creek-Amana.

Five Vikings medal in Waverly; team takes second

The Vikings played at the Waverly Municipal Golf Course this weekend and placed second in the team standings shooting 310. The course was in great shape and the day was beautiful with a little bit of wind. Austin Bohnsack led the Vikings carding a 74 taking home the runner-up medalist. Grant Noren placed 5th firing a 77. Tyler Stueck followed in 6th place carding a 78.

Three Vikings at 39 in home meet win over Independence

The VS Viking golf team defeated Independence Thursday 158-171 at the Vinton County Club.  It was a beautiful afternoon on the course, but the golfers did have to take into account the wind, which was a factor on a couple holes.  Austin Bohnsack was the medalist carding a 39.  Mike DeLong was the runner-up medalist also carding a 39.

Vikettes win Benton Invite; Tandy cards 86 to take top medal

Senior Lauren Tandy led all golfers with an 86 at the Benton Community girls golf invitational on Saturday, April 16. The Vikettes won by five strokes over the Bobcats. Vikings win home track meet

Indoor record: Jordan Barnes, Tyler Bartz, Jordan Womochil and Nick Hyland keep winning in 4 x 200. The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking 4 x 200 relay team, which set an indoor Wamac record earlier this season, continues to win. The quartet of Joel Barnes, Jordan Womochil, Tyler Bartz and Nick Hyland won first place at the Viking Invitational Thursday in Vinton, with a time of 1:31.28. The Vikings won in team scoring with 166 points; Williamsburg was second and Benton Community, third.

Senior Lauren Tandy (44) was the medalist and sophomore Alex Maynard earned her first medal, finishing second with a 48. 7 on 7 passing league continues; remaining schedule listed

Coach Andy May leads stretching drills during the first 7-on-7 league practice. Nearly 50 young people (including some girls) have participated in the first-ever Vinton-Shellsburg 7-on-7 football passing league. Those who have not yet signed up are welcome to attend upcoming sessions, says league organizer Andy May. There is no cost for participants, said May. To address some confusion about the schedule, May is announcing the tentative dates for the rest of the league events.
